About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Medical-Surgical Acute Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 1 year License: Active IL RN License Certifications: BLS (AHA) Must-Have: Client experience; ability to titrate drips Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in a Medical-Surgical Acute Care setting. The unit has a total of 18 beds, most of which are private rooms. Patient-to-nurse ratios are 4-5:1 during the day and 5-6:1 at night. Common patient diagnoses include various medical conditions. RNs are required to titrate medication drips, including Heparin. The unit is staffed with 24/7 Charge RN coverage and a house supervisor. There are two Patient Care Technicians per shift, maintaining a ratio of 9:1 when the unit is full. RNs may work with patients requiring stable BiPAP/CPAP at night or as needed. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely, with unit equipment monitored by staff. Shifts are 12 hours long, from 7 AM to 7 PM, with a report given at the start of each shift. RNs work every other weekend and rotate holidays as per policy. There is no call requirement, but RNs may float to other units when necessary. Staff is required to wear any color scrubs but must provide their own. In-house support includes hospitalists, intensivists, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy staff. RNs are expected to perform IV starts and utilize unit resources if needed. Phlebotomy services are available for blood draws. This position requires teamwork and collaboration with unit leadership for scheduling preferences.
