Assistant Principal – 220 Days Instruction Jefferson County Schools – T.A. Lowery Elementary, Shenandoah Junction, West Virginia. Job Summary The Assistant Principal assists the building principal and may act as principal in their absence. Responsibilities include managing instructional activities, supervising staff, student conduct, budgeting, community relations, and administrative reporting. Responsibilities Assume full administration of the school in the principal’s absence. Assist in distribution and inventory of textbooks and instructional supplies. Assist in supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff, including extracurricular assignments. Assist in the preparation of Federal, State, and County reports. Assist in the development of the master schedule. Assist in coordinating ancillary services needed for school operation, including budgeting, transportation, child nutrition, custodial services, pupil services, health and social services, federal programs, special education, common planning, best practices in curriculum & instruction, school improvement, technology integration, and ADA compliance. Assist staff with student relations, staff development, community relations, student discipline, student attendance, student supervision, instructional programs, and the Local School Improvement Council. Implement and administer regulations, policies, and procedures related to student conduct. If assigned responsibility for athletics, manage all aspects of the athletic program, including scheduling, officials, equipment inventory, and budgeting. Assist in arranging substitute teachers and providing appropriate orientation and evaluation of their performance. Promote a positive school environment, including effective use of the faculty senate. Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal. Qualifications Valid teaching certificate that licenses the individual to teach in the required specializations and grade levels. Criminal background check conducted pursuant to WV Code §18-5-15c and/or §18A-3-10. Master’s Degree. Hold or be eligible for a valid West Virginia administrative certificate at the appropriate programmatic level. Completion of the WV Evaluation Leadership Institute. Minimum three years of successful teaching experience; preference for experience at the appropriate programmatic level. Knowledgeable in school curriculum at the appropriate programmatic level. Knowledgeable in County, State, and Federal policies. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as a member of an educational team. Effective written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to integrate computers and technology in educational leadership. Demonstrated ability to implement innovative programs related to the appropriate programmatic level. Demonstrates self‑control and maintains or upgrades skills through self‑improvement, constructive criticism, and participation in workshops and training. Physical Demands Frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting, grasping, writing, speaking, hearing, and use of technology such as computers and multimedia equipment. May frequently lift and/or move at least 10 pounds of materials. Work Environment Indoors during the school day with periodic outdoor activities, including recess, supervision of outdoor activities and athletics, and field trips. Noise levels are generally low to moderate (20–60 dB), with occasional moderate to loud (60–90 dB) in gymnasiums, athletic fields, and vocational/technical laboratories.
