The Director of Business Operations plays a critical role in supporting the district’s long-term operational strategy through oversight of leases, partnerships, capital planning, and operational systems that enable district leadership to make informed and effective decisions. The Role: The Director of Business Operations is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the district’s operational portfolio, including lease management, partnership agreements, capital project coordination, and operational systems development. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Business Operations ensures that the district’s operational infrastructure supports strategic growth, financial stewardship, and organizational effectiveness across both on-site and off-site operations. This role serves as the strategic counterpart to the Director of Facilities. While the Director of Facilities oversees day-to-day facility operations, maintenance, and vendor execution, the Director of Business Operations focuses on operational planning, contract oversight, lease administration, construction coordination, and system-level operational alignment. The position is highly cross-functional and works closely with Finance, Facilities, Human Resources, district leadership, legal counsel, external partners, and contractors to ensure that district operations remain scalable, compliant, and strategically aligned. Competencies for Our Director of Business Operations: Operational Strategy & Systems Development - Designs and implements scalable operational systems that support district-wide efficiency, accountability, and long-term growth. Develops workflows, dashboards, tracking systems, and standard operating procedures related to leases, contracts, capital projects, and operational coordination. Lease & Real Estate Portfolio Management - Oversees the district’s portfolio of leased and partner-operated facilities, including renewals, negotiations, critical date tracking, and operational readiness planning. Maintains centralized lease management systems and coordinates with legal counsel, landlords, and district leadership to ensure compliance with lease obligations and strategic alignment of district sites. Partnership & Contract Oversight - Coordinates the development, review, renewal, and administration of partnership agreements and operational contracts. Works closely with district leadership and legal counsel to ensure agreements align with operational, financial, and strategic priorities while minimizing organizational risk. Capital Planning & Construction Coordination - Leads operational coordination for district capital projects, renovations, expansions, and site development initiatives. Maintains district-wide construction schedules and collaborates with the Director of Facilities, Owner’s Representative, architects, contractors, and district leadership to ensure projects remain aligned with budget, timeline, and operational requirements. Cross-Functional Collaboration - Serves as a bridge between Finance, Facilities, Human Resources, academic leadership, and off-site operations to ensure operational decisions are aligned with enrollment growth, staffing capacity, facility availability, and district strategy. Facilitates communication and accountability across operational functions. Strategic Planning & Growth Support - Supports the district’s expansion and optimization efforts related to off-site learning centers and partnership models. Assists with feasibility analysis, operational due diligence, and implementation planning for new sites, relocations, and strategic operational initiatives. Decision Rights and Authority Stewardship - Operates within and reinforces the documented decision rights of the operational and finance decision-making structures. Makes authorized recommendations promptly within scope; escalates decisions that exceed scope through documented channels. Provides the analytical foundation that supports decisions made at the CFO, Superintendent, and Board level. Continuous Improvement - Champions operational excellence through disciplined system design, proactive planning, and continuous refinement of district processes. Identifies operational risks, inefficiencies, and process gaps and develops sustainable solutions that improve organizational effectiveness. What We’ll Love About You: You have five or more years of experience in operations management, project management, real estate/lease administration, facilities coordination, or a related leadership field. Experience within a public school district, governmental organization, or other multi-site organization is preferred. You possess strong organizational, analytical, and operational planning skills, along with demonstrated experience managing complex projects, contracts, or operational systems. You are highly effective at balancing strategic planning with practical execution and can successfully coordinate across multiple departments and stakeholders. You are an excellent communicator with strong relationship-building skills and the ability to navigate complex operational challenges with professionalism and sound judgment. You are detail-oriented, systems-minded, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
