Precision Sheet Metal Brake Setup Technician

Location: Kansas City, KS
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Pay: $28.00 per hour
Overtime: May be available based on production needs

A day in this role

You clock in, review the day’s work orders, and pull the prints for a new run. You choose the right punches and dies, set your backgauge, and program the bend sequence directly at the control. Before the first piece leaves the machine, you double‑check bend allowances and springback, verify with a protractor and calipers, and make a fine adjustment to nail the angle. Throughout the shift, you keep the press brake running safely and efficiently—moving material with an overhead crane when needed, tracking counts and inspection results, and staying ahead of quality issues with on‑the‑spot corrections.

What you’ll take ownership of

• Setting up and operating CNC press brakes to form sheet and plate with precision
• Reading blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and GD&T callouts accurately
• Selecting, installing, and dialing in punches, dies, backgauges, and related tooling
• Programming bend sequences, angles, and backgauge positions at the machine control
• Loading and verifying existing programs when applicable
• Calculating bend allowances, deductions, and springback compensation
• Inspecting parts using calipers, micrometers, protractors, angle gauges, and height gauges
• Tweaking setups to hold tight tolerances and sustain quality
• Meeting throughput goals while minimizing scrap and rework
• Handling material safely using forklifts, overhead cranes, and other lifting equipment
• Performing routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic troubleshooting on the press brake
• Accurately documenting production counts and inspection results
• Keeping your cell and area clean, organized, and audit‑ready
• Following PPE requirements, lockout/tagout, and all facility safety procedures

What you bring

• 2+ years of CNC press brake experience in manufacturing or metal fabrication
• Demonstrated ability to independently set up and run a press brake
• Strong print reading and technical drawing interpretation skills
• Comfort with GD&T fundamentals
• Solid shop math (fractions, decimals, angles)
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools
• Understanding of bend theory and material behavior
• Experience forming steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
• Skill in troubleshooting setups and adjusting to meet spec
• High school diploma or equivalent

Bonus points

• Experience with Trumpf press brakes
• Offline CNC programming exposure
• Tandem or robotic press brake operation
• Background in welding, laser cutting, or related metal fabrication processes

Physical demands

• Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Use lifting equipment or assistance for larger parts
• Stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks for the full shift
• Comfort around moving equipment, metal edges, and normal manufacturing noise
• Wear required PPE: safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves

This is a hands‑on role for an experienced CNC press brake professional who can set up and run jobs—not just load and unload parts.
