Chemist
$30 - $45 per hourAlpine Polytech
Alpine Polytech is seeking a chemist who is excited to push the limits of polymer characterization through exposure to some of the most demanding environments on Earth. As an integral part of our ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation, you will help design and execute rigorous test plans that help our customers in energy, aerospace, automotive, and other advanced industries. The goal is to help them qualify materials and components for real-world service conditions. Alpine works diligently to recreate real world service conditions and the most important part of this process is matching the exposure chemistry of our test lab to the service environment. You will join a fast-growing, highly technical team known for developing customized test regimens when existing standards are not enough, giving you the opportunity to combine hands‑on lab work with problem‑solving that directly influences field performance and reliability for our clients. Technical duties and responsibilities Assess chemical SDS and oversee the use and disposal of hazardous chemicals. Develop and coordinate comprehensive chemical safety programs. Prepare and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions as needed using the lab’s document control system. Maintain chemical and material inventories, including proper segregation, labeling, storage conditions, and expiration-date management. Direct colleagues to follow lab requirements. Oversee the receipt, inspection, and logging of incoming chemicals and test materials. Communicate clearly with customers and internal stakeholders regarding sample receipt, discrepancies, documentation needs, and status updates. Set up, conduct and analyze exposure tests utilizing standards and specifications. Create test proposals, evaluate test program pricing, write and review final reports, send to customers, revise as needed. Follow quality system requirements in all work, including use of controlled forms, revision‑controlled documents, and proper corrections to records. Report nonconformances or safety concerns promptly and participate in corrective actions as requested. General, safety, and physical requirements Maintain a clean, organized work area consistent with laboratory safety and work‑flow procedures. Comply with all lab safety policies, including proper PPE use, chemical handling, and waste management practices. Safely handle and move boxes and containers of chemicals and materials; must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Qualifications: Ideal candidate will have qualifications that include: Education in chemistry, science and/or chemical engineering (4 yr degree required). Experience handling hazardous chemicals or working in a laboratory, industrial, or O&G environment is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of lab testing methods and equipment. Expertise with MS Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Understanding SDS and typical safety precautions utilized while working with chemicals including storage, mixing and use of chemicals and disposal methods. Quality Control and Calibration – conducting tests and inspections of products and processes to evaluate quality performance. Accuracy of work and attention to detail is required. Self‑motivated and able to work individually and/or in a team environment. Working conditions, schedule, and pay Work is performed indoors in environmentally controlled office and laboratory spaces; PPE is provided for lab work. Standard schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (full‑time). Pay range: $30.00-$45.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications. Overtime available. This type of professional position is typically a salaried position but Alpine chooses to pay hourly so that you get properly compensated when you over 40 hours. #J-18808-Ljbffr
