Spanish Interpreters are bilingual and proficient in English and Spanish with the ability to interpret health care information to and from Spanish-speaking patients/patients' families and Cook Children's health care providers. Will act as a language liaison between the patient, family, and staff in support of the medical plan of care. Facilitates acquisition of Interpreter services for non-Spanish languages (via OPI/over the phone, VRI/video remote interpreter and/or contract services).**Hours:** This position is PRN with varying hours, morning, evening, overnight, weekend, and holidays.**Note:** \*\* Will require full time in-person training for 4-6 weeks at Cook Children's Fort Worth Medical Center.**Required Education & Experience:*** High School diploma or equivalent.* **1-2 years of experience working in a healthcare setting.*** **Current knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.*** Previous interpretation/translation experience (preferred).* Ability to precisely and accurately translate critical medical information from English to the patient's native language.* Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.* Excellent communication and active listening skills.* Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.* Ability to interact and communicate with people in-person and over the telephone, often in stressful situations.**Required Certification & Testing:*** Selected applicants will be tested on their Spanish proficiency level to determine oral, reading, and writing skills prior to an offer being made, and must test at a proficient level as defined by Cook Children's Health Care System to qualify.* Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Health Care Providers is required within 30 days of employment and must be maintained.**Cook Children's Medical Center** is the cornerstone of Cook Children's, and offers advanced technologies, research and treatments, surgery, rehabilitation and ancillary services all designed to meet children's needs.Cook Children's is an EOE/AA, Minority/Female/Disability/Veteran employer.Promise, a strong word with deep meaning that everyone understands—especially kids.
