Counter Sales Representative

Operations Support Representative / Inside Sales

This role supports a steel pipe distribution operation by combining inside sales, customer service, and operational coordination. You will handle quotes, orders, and customer inquiries while working closely with the yard and operations team to ensure accurate inventory, smooth order flow, and reliable delivery. The position offers a balanced mix of office work and hands-on interaction with materials and inventory, giving you a clear view of how orders move from initial quote through fulfillment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive customer support by handling quotes, order entry, and product inquiries via phone, email, and in person.
  • Collaborate closely with operations staff to confirm inventory levels, product availability, and detailed order requirements.
  • Occasionally go into the yard to verify materials, check product specifications, and support overall order accuracy.
  • Coordinate with shipping, receiving, and sales teams to ensure smooth order flow from initial request through delivery.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, fabricators, and industrial customers through attentive service and follow-up.
  • Assist with tracking orders, updating customers on order status, and resolving issues or discrepancies as they arise.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, pricing, and inventory to provide accurate information and guidance to customers.
  • Support general customer service and account management activities to strengthen long-term customer partnerships.
  • Contribute to a team-focused environment by assisting colleagues and supporting operations where needed.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of inside sales, sales support, or customer-facing experience, preferably in a B2B or industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills with the ability to manage inquiries, resolve issues, and build strong relationships.
  • Experience in inventory-related work or order coordination, with comfort verifying materials and order details.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with customers and internal teams.
  • Solid organizational and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on accuracy and follow-through.
  • Detail-oriented approach and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including order entry systems, email, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Team-focused mindset with a willingness to collaborate across operations, sales, and logistics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in steel, pipe, aluminum, lumber, construction, or similar industrial materials is a strong plus.
  • Comfort working in a role that blends office-based coordination with on-site interaction in a warehouse or yard.
  • Experience in inside sales, customer support, or account management in a distribution or manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to quickly develop product knowledge and understand pricing structures and inventory practices.
  • Capacity to build and maintain relationships with contractors, fabricators, and industrial customers over time.

Work Environment

You will work in a combined Office/Warehouse/Materials Yard setting, splitting time between office-based tasks and hands-on coordination in the yard. The environment involves regular interaction with steel pipe and other industrial materials, as well as close collaboration with operations, shipping, receiving, and sales teams. You can expect a consistent full-time MondayFriday schedule in a practical, industrial setting where teamwork and communication are essential.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Vancouver, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.
