Senior System Safety Engineer Location: El Segundo, CA (or Goleta, CA) – Onsite Security clearance: Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret clearance required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required. Our System Safety team is dedicated to evaluating and mitigating the safety risks that our products may pose to the world, specifically to people, hardware, and the environment. By applying rigorous engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques, the team ensures that safety is optimized throughout every phase of the system lifecycle. What You Will Do Develop and implement one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs. Perform MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, or customer’s approved equivalent. Coordinate with customer safety representatives, applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated and horizontally integrated across the development teams. Coordinate with customer safety representatives to gain safety approval from appropriate Safety Review Board authorities. Work across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls. Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal. Perform System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses. Brief safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process. Interpret system requirements, customer specifications, and military standards. Prepare internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program. Collaborate across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design. Interface with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering. Manage System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives. Ability to work on Special Access Program(s). Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant prior experience. Experience with System & Software Safety Engineering. Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship required. Qualifications We Prefer Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). Experience with DoD System Safety Programs (e.g., MIL-STD-882 / DO-178). Experience with written, verbal and presentation skills. Experience with system and software safety implementation in Agile Development environment. Experience solving complex problems by leveraging available resources and research material. Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Proposal Development. Experience interfacing with Human Systems Integration, showcasing execution of Human Factors Engineering tasking involving MIL-STD-1472. Experience with Engineering Change Proposals, Engineering Review Boards, System Safety Working Groups. 3 years’ experience with a master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM). Active and transferrable final U.S. government issued Secret security clearance. What We Offer Salary range: $95,500 - $181,700 USD.
