Transplant Nephrology Fellow - Department of Medicine: Division of Nephrology
The Division of Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in beautiful Charleston, South Carolina, is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Nephrologist to join our Transplant Nephrology program as a Transplant Nephrology Fellow. The MUSC Health Transplant ICCE (Integrated Centers of Clinical Excellence) is the first academic program of its kind in the nation offering a Transplant Nephrology Fellowship training program that is designed to foster clinical care, original research, and training in the diagnosis and management of patients with common and rare forms of diseases specific to patients undergoing solid organ (heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas) transplantation. The fellowship offers many opportunities to engage in world-class clinical and/or basic research in transplantation medicine.
The Fellow will participate in all clinical training, teaching, and scholarly activities. The Fellow will manage all aspects of pre-transplant care including waitlist management, kidney donor evaluation, as well as post-transplant care, including performing biopsies and management of immunosuppression. The Fellow, under the direct guidance of an experienced Transplant team which includes Transplant Surgeons, Transplant Nephrologists, Transplant ID, Transplant Pharmacology and other specialties, will participate in a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the fundamental mechanisms underlying protective immune responses, and will focus on the recent advances and emerging themes in transplantation research for improved patient outcomes. The Medical University of South Carolina performed over 380 renal transplants in 2025 and is in the top 10 busiest program in the United States.
This MUSC Transplant Nephrology Fellowship is accredited by the American Society of Transplantation. The position is open to individuals who have already completed their general nephrology fellowship training in a US-accredited program (or equivalent) and want to obtain additional expertise in preparation for a career in academic transplantation medicine.
