Travel RN - Telemetry - ER - Hold

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ED Hold Med/Surg position at a Level II Trauma Center in Montgomery, AL, requiring a minimum of 18 months of Med/Surg experience and an AL or compact RN license.

Job Details

• ED Hold Med/Surg unit within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center,
• 67-bed ED where MS Hold beds are allocated - expect quick patient turnover with frequent new assignments,
• Patient population includes CHF exacerbation, TIA/CVA rule-out, GI/GU conditions, weakness/dizziness, and chest pain,
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with CNA support at a 1:12 ratio,
• Procedures and skills utilized include IV starts, blood administration, suctioning, O2 therapy, ostomy care, Foley and external catheter care, PEG/NGT care, wound care, chest tube management, falls prevention, and restraint management,
• Telemetry monitoring available on unit,
• EMR: Cerner; IV pumps: Plum 360; medication dispensing: Omnicell; monitors: Spacelabs,
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), 36 hours per week with potential for 48,
• Every other weekend rotation, or 4 weekend days per month if on a block schedule,
• No on-call requirements,
• Floating may be required to like units (e.g., MS-to-MS, MS-to-ICU task, MS-to-ER/MS holds),

Job Requirements

• Active AL RN license or compact RN license required (may submit pending with ETA),
• Current certifications required: BLS, NIHSS, and CPI (or equivalent); ACLS preferred,
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg RN experience required,
• This is a MS assignment - ER experience is not required and ER RNs seeking a MS float role will not be considered,
• Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and documentation skills required,
• Cerner or Epic EMR experience required for first-time travelers,
• Level II Trauma experience required for first-time travelers,
• Must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible,
• Required for consideration: 1 reference from charge nurse or above within the past 12 months, copy of certifications, full SSN, and DOB (day and month),

Additional Information

• Nurses in this role will be physically located in the ER but will be caring for Med/Surg patients who have been admitted with inpatient orders - understanding the ER-to-inpatient transition is essential,
• Teaching facility experience preferred,
• ED experience preferred but not required,
• Unit support includes CNAs, receptionist/HUC, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, and hospitalists,
• Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom training plus 24 hours of on-unit orientation for new or returning travelers absent for 1+ year; orientation for rehires is evaluated based on last date of service,
• Interviews are conducted via SimpliFi,
• Travelers are expected to cover one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy,
• Time-off requests of up to 7 days may be approved, excluding facility blackout dates (MLK Jr. Day, Valentine's Day week, Spring Break, Easter weekend, Mother's Day weekend, Memorial Day week, Father's Day weekend, Labor Day weekend, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Year's),
• Schedule runs in 6-week cycles,
• Scrubs: any color accepted; free parking available on-site,
• First-time travelers are welcome with at least 2 years of experience, Cerner or Epic EMR experience, and Level II Trauma experience,
• Travelers with 1 year of experience will be considered,
• Former permanent staff must wait 6 months before being considered for a travel assignment at this facility
