Infusion Registered Nurse

Employee Type FT Non-Exempt Description CRHC is looking for a Registered Nurse to work in our Infusion Clinic. The anticipated schedule is 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Flexibility in the schedule may be available, depending on the candidate’s availability and the department's needs. PRIMARY FUNCTION: Infusion and Oncology RN provides specialized nursing care by administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other infusion treatments while closely monitoring patient response and addressing symptoms. They ensure patient safety through thorough assessments, treatment verification, and adherence to ONS and regulatory standards. This role also provides education, emotional support, and coordinated care to help patients navigate their treatment journey. Responsible for Advancing Exceptional Care by prioritizing Safety and Quality in every aspect of patient care. Requirements Education and/or Experience Graduate from an approved school/college of nursing Obtain ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate within first 6 months of employment Certificates, Licensure, Registrations Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa or Compact State Obtain ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification within first 6 months of employment Obtain ONS/ONCC Oncology Certified Nurse certification within 6 months of meeting the eligibility requirements for testing Position is classified as non-exempt and eligible for overtime in accordance with labor laws. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS This position involves a combination of physical activities necessary to perform essential job functions effectively. The employee should be able to: Sit, stand, and walk for varying lengths of time throughout the workday. Lift, push, pull, or carry light to moderate loads, with assistance available for heavier items. Use fine motor skills , including grasping, reaching, and handling equipment or materials as needed. Perform routine movements , such as typing, writing, or handling supplies. Bend, stoop, kneel, or crouch occasionally for job-related tasks. See and hear well enough to read documents, operate equipment, and communicate effectively. Work in a dynamic environment , adapting to occasional changes in pace or setting. Provide Specialized Infusion Therapy Safely administer IV infusions including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics, blood products, hydration, antibiotics, and supportive medications. Perform vascular access management. 2. Oncology Nursing Care & Symptom Management Deliver comprehensive care to oncology patients across the continuum—new diagnosis, active treatment, survivorship, and palliative phases. Assess, monitor, and manage treatment-related side effects and toxicities in collaboration with oncology providers. 3. Patient Assessment & Care Planning Conduct thorough nursing assessments prior to infusion and throughout treatment sessions. Escalate concerns to the oncology provider promptly and participate in plan-of-care development. 4. Treatment Preparation & Safety Verification Complete chemotherapy/biotherapy verification steps per ASCO/ONS standards. Double-check dosing, sequencing, labs, allergies, and supportive medications. Ensure safe handling of hazardous medications, including PPE and USP compliance. Provide education regarding treatment expectations, potential side effects, symptom reporting, and home care instructions. Offer emotional support and connect patients and families with available resources. 6. Care Coordination & Communication Collaborate with oncology providers, specialty clinic teams, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, and external partners. Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and transitions between services. 7. Documentation & Compliance Document all assessments, infusions, provider communications, and interventions accurately in the EHR. Adhere to internal policies, safety procedures, ONS standards, and regulatory requirements. 8. Emergency Preparedness & Patient Safety Recognize and respond to infusion reactions or medical emergencies, initiate protocols as appropriate. Maintain crash cart checks, medication safety processes, and environment-of-care safety. 9. Clinical Competency & Professional Development Participate in continuing education, skills validation, and competency assessments. 10. Support Operational Workflows Assist with scheduling, treatment plan management, supply oversight, and coordination of daily patient flow. Help develop and refine procedures that improve patient experience, safety, and efficiency. 11. Quality Program Participation Actively participates in CRHC’s Quality Program, committees, performance improvement initiatives, and operational support activities. Demonstrates a commitment to Quality Improvement (QI) practices. Regularly attends Department huddles. Completes tasks as outlined on the Department Huddle Board. 12.
