Physical Therapist

The Physical Therapist provides comprehensive evaluations and treatments that positively impact patients' functional abilities. This role involves overseeing and directing the work of Physical Therapist Assistants and other designated staff members.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct general physical therapy evaluations and treatments for a diverse patient population.
• Assess patients, perform evaluations, and identify therapy diagnoses.
• Formulate customized treatment plans with specific goals and implement physical therapy services.
• Supervise and adjust treatment plans based on patient responses to ensure optimal outcomes.
• Review clinical records and case histories; participate in care conferences and meetings.
• Collaborate with team members to arrange medical equipment and establish care plans prior to patient discharge.
• Document patient encounters, including findings and treatment recommendations, in accordance with organizational policies.
• Provide timely physical therapy services in both inpatient and outpatient settings as assigned.
• Direct the work of support staff, students, or interns as needed.
• Facilitate healthcare partnerships between providers, patients, and their families.
• Develop and conduct patient education and therapy programs tailored to individual needs.
• Create clear home exercise programs and ensure understanding through feedback from patients or caregivers.
• Assist with administrative tasks and clinic operations as appropriate.
• Utilize hospital systems to access patient information and communicate effectively using digital platforms.
• Summarize results, statistics, and metrics for management as required.
• Assist with acquiring and fitting durable medical equipment based on patient needs.
• Maintain cleanliness of the clinical space and inventory of supplies and clinical equipment.
• Educate staff and patients regarding functional limitations and desired therapeutic goals.
• Participate in departmental duties and represent the Rehabilitation Services Department as requested.
• Adhere to regulatory standards and confidentiality policies related to physical therapy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Entry-level master's or doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program, or graduation from an APTA-approved program with two years of relevant work experience.
• Current Physical Therapist License and Basic Life Support certification.
• Valid driver's license.
• Clinical competency required within three months of hire, and subsequently every three years.
• High risk competency required within three months of hire, and subsequently every three years.

Preferred Experience

• Broad-based clinical experience in multiple settings.

Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of musculoskeletal physiology and effective treatment techniques.
• Knowledge of neurological systems and the ability to assess and treat related issues.
• Expertise in general medical conditions and referral processes for non-musculoskeletal cases.
• Ability to perform standardized assessments and develop appropriate treatment plans.
• Proficient in utilizing various assessment tools and adaptive devices.
• Strong communication skills for effectively interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Competency in information technology and various software applications.
