Physical Therapist

Pay Range: $26.06 - $36.08. $25,000 Sign On and $10,000 Relocation for qualified hire! This position is based in the Hospital Rehabilitation Services Department, focusing on providing Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) treatments. Physical therapy is a core service at SEARHC. PTAs work under the direction of a licensed physical therapist, implementing selected interventions, collecting data, and adjusting treatments as directed to progress patient safety and comfort. PTAs assist patients of all ages and conditions, ensuring functional mobility and preventing loss of mobility. PTAs are not responsible for testing or evaluation, and must adhere to licensure and ethical standards set by APTA and the Alaska Board. Key Essential Functions And Accountabilities Of The Job Provide therapy treatments from the physical therapist’s plan of care, implementing PTA services focused on PT goals. Review clinical records, attend care conferences, and stay in contact with the interdisciplinary team. Collaborate to arrange medical equipment and establish discharge plans. Document encounter findings, treatments, diagnoses, and prognoses per hospital policies. Serve both in‑patient and out‑patient populations in various settings as assigned. Education, Certifications, and Licenses Required Entry‑level qualifying Physical Therapy Assistant associate degree from a CAPTE accredited program. Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Current Basic Life Support CPR certification. Valid Driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience Required Preferred acute care hospital and clinical out‑patient experience. Knowledge Knowledge of anatomy, musculoskeletal physiology (active/passive range of motion, gait, strength, biomechanics, mental cognition) to ensure effective adherence to treatment plans. Knowledge of various treatment planning and therapies for patients with functional deficits across the general population. Knowledge of regulations and practice standards related to physical therapy, including billing mechanisms (Medicaid, Medicare, third‑party payers) for equipment and services. Skills Ability to fit and train patients with adaptive devices, including splints, braces, orthoses, seating equipment, durable medical equipment, and ADL assistive devices. Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting reports and training staff, consulting with management and external agencies, and public speaking. Proficiency with computers and IT systems, including laptops, tablets, and imaging devices. Ability Effective communication with patients, families, educators, community members, and non‑PT professionals, translating complex PT concepts into simple language. Physical capacity to deliver treatment techniques and assist patient mobility safely for both self and patient. Sound judgment in patient care, workplace safety, and employee relations. Required Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association. Clinical Competency Assessment – SEARHC. High Risk Competency – SEARHC. Physical Therapist Assistant certification – Alaska State Board of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
