Job Summary
The ASP Trooper serves as a frontline officer responsible for enforcing state laws, ensuring public safety, conducting investigations, and providing emergency response services. Troopers patrol assigned areas, respond to calls for service, investigate traffic crashes and criminal activity, and engage in community policing initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
Conduct routine and high-visibility patrols on state highways, rural roads, and designated enforcement zones. Enforce traffic laws, criminal statutes, and motor vehicle regulations. Respond to emergency calls, accidents, crimes in progress, and disturbances. Perform DUI enforcement, drug interdiction, and proactive criminal investigations. Assist local law enforcement agencies as needed, including in emergency situations. Provide first responder services at accident scenes, natural disasters, and crime scenes. Conduct life-saving measures, including CPR, first aid, and crisis intervention. Secure and maintain crime scenes, collect evidence, and document findings. Respond to active shooter incidents, high-risk stops, and dangerous situations. Investigate traffic collisions, issue citations, and determine contributing factors. Conduct commercial vehicle inspections and enforce transportation laws. Operate speed detection devices, breathalyzer equipment, and other enforcement tools. Complete detailed crash reports and testify in court when necessary. Conduct criminal investigations, collect witness statements, and prepare reports. Serve warrants, subpoenas, and legal notices as required. Work with prosecutors and legal teams to present evidence in court proceedings. Assist with search-and-rescue missions, fugitive apprehensions, and surveillance operations. Promote community-oriented policing through outreach programs and public safety education. Provide safety presentations in schools, businesses, and civic organizations. Develop trust-based relationships with the public to encourage cooperation and crime prevention. Mediate disputes and use de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts peacefully. Participate in ongoing training in defensive tactics, firearms, driving skills, and crisis intervention. Stay updated on new laws, policies, and enforcement techniques. Maintain certifications in specialized units, such as K-9, SWAT, or drug interdiction.
Knowledge and Skills
Strong knowledge of criminal law, traffic law, and investigative procedures. Proficiency in defensive tactics, firearms handling, and emergency vehicle operations. Ability to assess threats, analyze crime trends, and implement appropriate responses. Experience with law enforcement technology including body cameras, radios, and mobile data systems. Excellent communication and negotiation skills for working with the general public, suspects, and fellow officers. Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques. Ability to work well in crisis conditions.

Must possess a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
