Department of Forestry & Fire Protection Job Title and Classification Resource Manager FORESTER III (JC-520851) Department The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) is California’s fire department and resource management agency. The organization is comprised of nearly 12,000 permanent and seasonal employees. The mission of the Department is to serve and safeguard the people and protect the property and resources of California. Location Willits, CA. In Office (Telework: In Office) Job Type Permanent, Full Time Salary $9,897.00 - $12,843.00 per Month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Working Conditions The incumbent typically is required to perform psychologically stressful and/or physically demanding duties consistent with firefighting, disaster response, and emergency medical response. Duties include working in isolated areas, walking or running on uneven rough terrain, and remaining on duty 24 hours or longer without a break. May be subject to working nights, weekends or holidays in support of emergency incidents. Qualifications Minimum Requirements: FORESTER III classification as outlined in the Class Specification. Must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the Classification Specification(s). California Registered Professional Forester License is required. Provide a copy of your license prior to hire. Must complete CAL FIRE Fighter Academy (FFA) and Company Officer Academy (COA) during the probationary period, or provide proof of completion. Must have a thorough knowledge of forest management principles and practices, forest protection and fire prevention, forest management plans, forest product harvesting and sales, forest mensuration principles and practices, fundamentals of land surveying, and forest ecology. Ability to write technical reports and communicate with specialists, special interest groups, and the public. Knowledge of the Forest Practice Act, Board rules, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and other State and Federal Environmental, Forest, and Fire Laws, as well as law enforcement principles and techniques.
