In 1900, Yiddish-speaking Eastern European Jewish immigrants founded the Workers Circle on a radical idea that still drives us today: that Yiddish culture and social justice are inseparable. Today the Workers Circle engages a multigenerational community of more than 250,000 activists through strategic social justice campaigns, grassroots organizing, and the largest Yiddish language and culture program in the world. The Center for Yiddish Life is our next chapter. About the Role This year the Workers Circle is launching the Center for Yiddish Life, a dedicated new division that will give our Yiddish programming its own name, brand, leadership, and donor base. The Center will build on the world’s largest secular Yiddish language and culture program and expand its reach across generations. This role is being created to play an important part in the support of the growth of this new division. Key Responsibilities Program Administration and Coordination Support the Executive Director of the Center for Yiddish Life in launching the Center and growing the Center’s operations, partnerships, and community engagement efforts Provide assistance to the department staff in administering existing and new programs Support class registration cycles including course schedule preparation, listings, and instructor confirmations Maintain and update the Yiddish department calendar, registration sheets, and the organizational website Track enrollment, attendance, participant engagement, and demographic data to support program evaluation and strategic growth for both Yiddish classes and events Assist with event logistics for Winter in Yiddishland, Zol Zayn Yidish (Let There Be Yiddish: program for over 60 community), Trip to Yiddishland (a 7‑day immersive Yiddish summer program) and other department programs Support online bookstore operations, including Yiddish textbook and materials orders Outreach and Department Growth Develop and execute outreach campaigns to Jewish organizations, universities, and Yiddish institutions to promote courses and programs Build and maintain relationships with prospective students, alumni, and community partners Serve as a welcoming point of contact for prospective and current students, responding to inquiries and helping participants navigate programs and registration. Promote specialty programs (e.g., Green Yiddish, seniors programming) to relevant audiences including international Yiddishists Assist with the design and distribution of program marketing materials in coordination with the broader communications team Research and cultivate potential partnerships, funding opportunities, and program expansions that support departmental growth goals. Support logistics and planning for all Yiddish special programs, including Schmoozes, cultural events, and the Annual Trip to Yiddishland Provide event follow-up support, including sending post‑event materials and gathering participant feedback Evaluation and Reporting Assist in administering student surveys and compiling evaluation summaries for instructor performance and program quality Maintain organized records of enrollment, attendance, and event participation for departmental reporting Qualifications Required Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English Strong organizational and project management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple concurrent deadlines Comfort with online platforms, video conferencing tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams) Experience working with CRM, database, or constituent management systems. A genuine interest in Yiddish language, Jewish culture, or immigrant heritage Preferred Familiarity with Yiddish language and culture; working knowledge of Yiddish is a plus but not required. Background in education administration, cultural programming, or community outreach Experience with email marketing, social media outreach, or nonprofit communications Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, university Yiddish/Jewish Studies departments, or related networks Location: New York, NY (hybrid) Compensation & benefits: Salary is $50,000 plus a strong benefits package. This is a full‑time, exempt position, Union eligible.
