Underwriter, ISMIE Mutual Insurance Company Location Chicago – Fulltime About Us ISMIE is a Chicago based national professional liability insurance company that provides insurance coverage for health care professionals, small health care facilities and other professionals. About the Position Company is seeking an Underwriter that is able to work in a fast-paced environment to underwrite new and renewal professional liability business. Primary Responsibilities Review new business submissions to determine acceptability and insurability and prepare premium quotations and proposals. Review new business applications to determine insurability and develop appropriate premium and issue insurance binders to applicants, their employees or insurance representatives. Review renewal applications, evaluates losses and loss ratio to determine appropriate premium and issue renewal terms to policyholders, their employees or insurance representatives. Present quotations and/or proposals to policyholders, their employees or insurance representatives. Maintain active contact with assigned accounts. Research emerging underwriting issues to review alternative solutions and develop underwriting position papers. Determine appropriate response to customer inquiries to assure maximum policyholder satisfaction and communicate response directly with policyholders, their employees or insurance representatives. Assure optimal customer service is provided with each policyholder contact. Represent and market ISMIE Mutual at Outreach presentations. Maintain electronic/paper files for assigned accounts in good and businesslike condition. Additional responsibilities as required. Required Skills and Qualifications Education Required for Position Desirable Qualifications and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Experience Required for Position Insurance underwriting or medical experience required. Specific Skills Required for Position Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Strong analytical skills required. Word processing skills required. Excel skills and ability to create spreadsheets required. Mathematical skills and use of calculator required. Professional and service-oriented demeanor required. Ability to work and cope in a high pressure and fast-paced environment required. Ability to travel in Illinois (mostly day trips) required. Experience in professional liability preferred. Compensation and Benefits The pay range is estimated to be between $110,000 and $150,000 per year for Chicago residents. * The Company has a robust benefit package.
