STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Audit • Tax • Client Accounting

Build broad public-accounting experience from day one.

Mostert, Manzanero & Scott, LLP is seeking a motivated Staff Accountant to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who wants hands-on experience across audits, tax preparation, reviews and compilations, and client accounting. You will work closely with partners, managers, and experienced staff while serving nonprofit organizations, school districts, governmental entities, businesses, and individuals.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with audits of nonprofit organizations, school districts, and governmental entities, from planning through final workpapers.

• Perform audit fieldwork, gather supporting documentation, complete assigned procedures, and document conclusions clearly.

• Prepare confirmations, audit adjustments, required checklists, and—based on experience—financial statements.

• Prepare federal and state individual and business income tax returns, including organizing source documents, updating depreciation schedules, and comparing results with prior years.

• Prepare nonprofit tax returns and Annual Update Documents (AUDs) for municipalities.

• Identify missing information and questions, make revisions after review, and communicate follow-up items to partners and clients.

• Assist with reviews, compilations, bank reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, and other client accounting projects.

• Research tax and accounting issues, document findings, and discuss recommendations with senior staff and partners.

• Use QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online for tax, audit, and client accounting engagements.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; recent graduates and early-career candidates are encouraged to apply.

• A solid understanding of accounting fundamentals and a genuine interest in public accounting.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, coworkers, managers, and partners.

• Professional judgment, integrity, attention to detail, and a dependable approach to deadlines.

• Ability to think independently, research unfamiliar issues, develop practical solutions, and ask thoughtful questions when needed.

• Comfort managing multiple assignments and completing work accurately within reasonable timeframes.

• QuickBooks experience is helpful; familiarity with both Desktop and Online is a plus.

• CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA licensure is a plus, but not required.
