Speech Language Pathologist

Pay Range $41.66 - $58.69 Job Overview The Speech‑Language Pathology (SLP) position is based in the Rehabilitation Services Department. The primary focus is providing general SLP evaluations and treatments that impact a patient’s functional abilities. The role includes assessment, planning, therapeutic intervention, documentation, and collaboration within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient, outpatient, home‑health, and long‑term care settings. The incumbent must maintain high standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, and is expected to travel to remote locations as needed. Key Responsibilities Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify therapy diagnoses. Formulate and implement individualized treatment plans and goals. Provide direct SLP services in inpatient, outpatient, home health, and long‑term care settings. Document patient encounters, diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress notes in accordance with hospital and home‑health policies. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other rehabilitation professionals during care conferences and rounds. Supervise and coordinate the work of support staff, students, or interns. Develop and conduct patient education and therapy programs and provide home exercise programs. Assist in the acquisition and fit of durable medical equipment and maintain clinical supplies. Maintain cleanliness and safety of clinical spaces and use appropriate personal protective equipment. Travel to remote locations by boat or small airplane for multiple days, often in harsh weather. Qualifications Master’s degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited program. License to practice Speech Language Pathology in the State of Alaska. Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC‑SLP) must be obtained within the first year of employment and maintained throughout employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within three months of hire; high‑risk competency required within three months of hire and annually. Valid Alaska driver’s license required. Experience Acute care hospital experience, including subspecialty areas such as dysphasia and neurology, is preferred. Experience performing Modified Barium Swallow studies, video fluoroscopic swallowing studies, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, and bedside clinical swallowing examinations is required. Knowledge of physiology of speech production and swallowing, including respiration, phonation, articulation, resonance, and neurophysiology, is essential.
