RN Behavioral Health Travel Contract

NuWest is seeking an experienced Behavioral Health RN for a travel contract opportunity in Los Angeles, California. In this role, you will provide comprehensive inpatient psychiatric nursing care to patients presenting with acute mood disorders, psychosis, and substance use disorders in a locked behavioral health unit. The ideal candidate brings strong psychiatric nursing skills, sound clinical judgment, and a commitment to patient safety and therapeutic care in a high-acuity community-based acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and assess patients' mental and physical status on an ongoing basis, identifying and responding to changes in condition
• Implement and maintain suicide prevention and elopement precaution protocols in compliance with unit safety standards
• Administer medications, including psychotropic agents, per physician orders and monitor for therapeutic response and adverse effects
• Support and facilitate therapeutic interventions in collaboration with the interdisciplinary behavioral health team
• Maintain patient and unit safety through continuous observation, de-escalation techniques, and adherence to security protocols
• Provide direct patient care to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric disorders in a locked inpatient setting
• Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and responses in the electronic medical record (EMR)
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members to coordinate safe, patient-centered care

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient Behavioral Health and Medical/Surgical nursing experience in a community-based acute care hospital
• Current AHA BLS, and MAB or CPI certification
• LA City Fire and Life Safety card (must be LA City)
• LA County Employee Health Clearance must be completed prior to assignment start date
• Must be fully committed to completing an 8-week assignment
• Must be able to pass required background checks and drug screening
