Mobile Diesel Mechanic II

Job Summary Support the growth of Cox Fleet by serving as a Mobile Diesel Technician II in an on‑site, field‑based role. Manage preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, advanced repairs, and diagnostics for trailers and heavy‑duty equipment while maintaining safety and customer service standards. Duties Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment. Respond to unscheduled service requests dispatched by call center. Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks for repair work. Document all work in company standards, upload pictures, parts used, and findings to Repair Orders (RO) via iOS device and TRAIT application. Complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly. Manage parts inventory and company‑issued service truck, performing safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections. Acquire parts from approved vendors as needed, and communicate with management to obtain repair estimates and purchase order numbers. Maintain a high level of productivity, meeting standard repair times while working independently. Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment, including aluminum, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, lifters, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panels, body, and framework. Assist Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II with diagnostics and inventory reconciliation. Adhere to safety, health, and environmental policies, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations. Participate in company‑required safety training and maintain a safe work environment. Requirements High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and operate a set of hand tools necessary for the job. Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) and ASE 608/609 certifications within 18 months of hire. Pass DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical. A valid DOT medical card may substitute if it has more than 4 months remaining. Must be at least 21 years old and hold a valid state driver’s license. A 3‑year Motor Vehicle Report review is required. Eligible for a Driver Qualification File and must meet DOT driving requirements. Preferred certifications: ASE T4 (Brakes), ASE T5 (Suspension), ASE T6 (Electrical), ASE T7 (HVAC). CDL‑A license is preferred. Skills & Abilities Proficient understanding of trailer parts and systems, including design, repair, and maintenance. Strong problem‑solving skills, with ability to identify, evaluate, and recommend solutions. Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; perform moderate heavy labor. Excellent verbal and written communication, able to provide information and resolve client issues. Effective time management, prioritizing tasks and meeting scheduled deadlines.
