Growing together.Position SummaryAs a Sr Software Engineer at Optum Technology, you will design, build, and maintain scalable, secure, and cloud-native microservices using Java and Spring Boot. In this role, you will partner with architects, product owners, business analysts, and QA teams to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions. You will provide technical guidance and mentorship to development teams, drive code quality and security standards, support CI/CD pipelines, troubleshoot production incidents, and leverage automated tools and AI-assisted development practices to elevate engineering efficiency and application reliability.You'll enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.Primary Responsibilities:Design, develop, and deploy scalable, secure microservices and RESTful APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and cloud-native architecturesTranslate business requirements into robust technical designs, system architectures, and distributed solutionsProvide technical guidance, conduct code reviews, enforce development standards, and mentor junior and mid-level software engineersBuild and manage applications on cloud platforms (e.g., Azure or AWS) using containers, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deploymentsImplement unit, integration, and automated testing frameworks while identifying and remediating security vulnerabilitiesMonitor application health, troubleshoot production incidents, perform root cause analysis, and participate in on-call support to ensure high availabilityEvaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and tools to drive continuous improvement, performance tuning, and engineering automationLeverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, evaluate technical trends, and drive engineering efficiencyYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in. Required Qualifications:5+ years of professional software development experience building microservices and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot3+ years of experience working with distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and relational or non-relational databases3+ years of experience deploying and operating applications on cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) using container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)3+ years of experience supporting CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and monitoring/observability tools3+ years of experience leading design reviews, conducting code reviews, and providing technical guidance to software development teamsPreferred Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools and automation to optimize software engineering efficiencyExperience in production incident troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning for high-throughput healthcare applications*All Telecommuters will be required to adhere to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy.Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
