Assistant Professor, Department of Criminal Justice, Full-Time Tenure-Track

THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Criminal Justice offers a Bachelor of Science degree, a minor, and a certificate in Crime Scene Investigation. The department emphasizes experiential learning, career fairs, internships, research opportunities, and active‑learning pedagogy. The department seeks a generalist who can teach a broad range of lower and upper‑division criminal justice courses; candidates with expertise in criminal law, courts, and victimology will be prioritized.

DUTIES OF THE POSITION

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in areas such as criminal justice ethics, theories of crime, research methods in criminal justice, criminal law and the courts, victimology, restorative justice, and criminal law. Teaching assignments may include courses at the Hayward campus, Concord Center, and/or online. All faculty have advising responsibilities, assist with departmental administrative and committee work, and are expected to assume campus‑wide committee responsibilities. Additional duties include scholarly research, university service, and departmental representation at events.

RANK AND SALARY

Assistant Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, subject to budgetary authorization. Anticipated salary: $86,628–$92,844.

DATE OF APPOINTMENT

Fall Semester, 2027.

QUALIFICATIONS

Candidate must expect to have an earned doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field. An ABD will be considered, provided the degree is completed by the effective date of appointment. Candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching, mentoring, research, or community service that supports diversity and excellence. A record of scholarly activity, including publications and presentations at professional conferences (e.g., ASC, ACJS, or ASA), is required.
