The Director of Health & Safety, Finlays Solutions, leads occupational health, safety, and process safety across the Finlays Solutions business. Reporting to the COO of Finlays Solutions and working closely with the Global Head of Health & Safety, this role is accountable for developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Business Unit’s Health & Safety strategy. Additionally, the role will be responsible for managing, coaching, and developing the H&S team across the business. As part of the Finlays Global Health & Safety leadership team, this role translates global strategy, standards, and governance into effective delivery within Finlays Solutions. The Global Head of Health & Safety establishes Finlays-wide direction; this role ensures that direction is implemented in a practical, risk‑based, and locally relevant way. The role provides visible leadership and direction to embed Health & Safety into every aspect of the business, strengthening a culture where safety is recognized as both a core operational value and a business enabler. The position leads delivery of global Health & Safety standards across Finlays Solutions, with particular emphasis on improving occupational health and safety performance and maintaining process safety management systems appropriate to the business’s operational risk profile. The successful candidate will be a senior leader who can influence across cultures, functions, and geographies; build strong partnerships with operational teams; and support the organization’s 2030 Health & Safety ambitions, including sustained Recordable Injury and Tier 1 Process Safety Event rates below 0.40 and zero SIF events. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Strategic Leadership Develop and lead the Finlays Solutions Health & Safety strategy in alignment with the Finlays Global Health & Safety vision and objectives. Influence the Finlays Solutions SLT to ensure Health & Safety considerations are integrated into business decision‑making. Translate global Health & Safety priorities into practical, effective business‑unit programs. Provide leadership, coaching, and constructive challenge to senior operational leaders on Health & Safety matters. Promote Health & Safety as an integral component of operational excellence, business performance, and sustainable growth. Own overall Health & Safety performance for Finlays Solutions, including delivery against agreed strategic objectives, leading indicators, and lagging performance measures. Build Health & Safety capability through leadership development, competency frameworks, and succession planning. Provide expert advice to the Finlays Solutions SLT on significant Health & Safety risks, emerging issues, and strategic priorities. Occupational Health & Safety Leadership Lead programs focused on injury prevention, occupational health, wellbeing, and behavioral safety. Drive continual improvement in safety culture and employee engagement. Establish and monitor leading and lagging indicators to measure performance and identify improvement opportunities. Ensure robust incident management processes are in place across all locations. Oversee investigations into serious incidents, ensuring effective root‑cause analysis and shared learning. Develop leadership capability through coaching, training, and visible leadership programs. Guide the organization's industrial hygiene program, including exposure monitoring, hazard assessment, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance. Ensure appropriate management of contractor safety and high‑risk activities. Process Safety Leadership Lead implementation of process safety programs and standards within Finlays Solutions, aligned with global strategy. Ensure process safety risks are identified, assessed, and effectively managed. Support sites in developing process safety competency and awareness. Partner with the Global Head of Health & Safety to deploy process safety strategy, standards, and governance requirements. Ensure high‑hazard operations are managed through effective hazard identification, risk assessment, management of change, asset integrity, and process safety performance monitoring. Promote a cohesive approach to occupational safety and process safety, ensuring both programs reinforce one another. Governance, Assurance and Compliance Ensure compliance with applicable Health & Safety legislation and company requirements across all jurisdictions. Lead the Health & Safety assurance program for Finlays Solutions. Plan and execute audits, assessments, and reviews to verify compliance and effectiveness. Ensure action plans are developed and implemented to address audit findings and emerging risks. Establish governance processes that provide clear visibility of risk, performance, and accountability. Act as the escalation point for significant Health & Safety concerns within the Business Unit. Qualifications & Requirements Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Degree‑level qualification Experience with ISO 45001 Lead auditor training. Experience in a global role across an international, multi‑site business. Knowledge in machinery safety, workplace transport, warehouse risks, working at height and confined space. Strong training and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage both small and large groups and deliver with impact. Experience in a manufacturing or industrial business; experience with planned preventative maintenance and HAZOP studies is desirable. Demonstrated expertise in OSHA regulations and compliance requirements, with comprehensive knowledge of ANSI, NIOSH, NFPA, and other relevant occupational health and safety standards preferred. Experience working in a business with process safety challenges, such as pressure system compliance. Project management skills. Work Environment Employees must be able to work in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may include exposure to odors, dust, moderate noise levels, and fluctuations in temperature and ventilation Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times, which may include but is not limited to: safety glasses, steel‑toed shoes, gloves, hairnets, uniforms, and face shields, as required by specific job duties and safety protocols Ability to work in elevated positions, at up to 50 feet and using proper safety precautions Must be able to work in limited or cramped spaces and extend arms into machinery for inspection, cleaning, or maintenance tasks, while following all established safety protocols Quality Statement Our Quality and Food Safety Management strategy is anchored by our food safety and quality culture and a two‑pronged approach to “be the best” as we produce “only the best”. Report all food safety and quality issues to management immediately. Partner with colleagues across all functions to share knowledge, skills, and information regarding quality and food safety. Adhere to all health and safety work practices. Exhibit an understanding of quality and food safety standards and be able to speak about the Finlays quality and food safety system and your role in it. Handle customer complaints in a timely and professional manner so that the customer is put first, always. Participate fully in Finlays programs that drive continuous improvement methodologies.
