Workers Compensation Claims Specialist, South Region

The Workers Compensation Claims Specialist works within a Claims Team under direct supervision. The role develops the knowledge and skills needed to conduct thorough investigations, make decisions about liability/compensability, evaluate losses, negotiate settlements, and manage an inventory of commercial property/casualty and disability claims through comprehensive training, mentoring, and on‑the‑job learning. The specialist assists in providing service to policyholders and customers on mid‑size and large commercial accounts. We are open to filling this position as an Associate Claims Specialist I (grade10), Claims SpecialistI (grade11) or Claims SpecialistII (grade12) depending on candidate experience. Hybrid Work Requirement: This is a hybrid position with the requirement to return to office twice a month if you live within 50 miles of a GRS Claims office (Plano, TX; Suwanee, GA; or Chandler, AZ). Remote work may be considered for those within the South Region footprint but outside the 50‑mile radius of a GRS Claims office. Policy is subject to change. Training: Training is critical. Attendance and active engagement during training is mandatory. Training includes 1 week of travel to our office in Plano, TX in July. Responsibilities Investigate new claims by reviewing first reports of loss and supporting materials, determine the best first point of contact (injured workers, customers, witnesses, etc.) to gather information regarding injuries or loss, refer tasks to auxiliary units as necessary and post file accordingly. Establish action plans based on case facts, best practices, protocols, jurisdictional issues and available resources. Manage an inventory of worker’s compensation claims, evaluate compensability/liability and losses, and negotiate settlements within prescribed limits. Establish accurate loss cost estimates using available resources, special service instructions, and market protocols. Confirm or deny coverage based on facts obtained during the investigation and advise policyholders as to proper course of action. Review, analyze, and dispose of assigned claims within authority limits and state compliance. Update file, strategize and execute plans to mitigate exposure and increase disposal. Qualifications Effective interpersonal, analytical and negotiation abilities required. Ability to provide information in a clear, concise manner with an appropriate level of detail. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships. Demonstrated success in a professional environment; experience in a customer service/retail environment preferred. Effective analytical skills to gather information, analyze facts, and draw conclusions; generally acquired through a bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Knowledge of legal liability, insurance coverage and medical terminology helpful, but not mandatory. Licensing may be required in some states. Pay Philosophy The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value across the national market and allows employees to progress as they grow within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual include a compensation plan that may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
