Licensed Practical Nurse/Transportation Nurse Starting Date: Jul 1, 2026 Job Description Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Transportation Nurse Work Year: 2026-27 Academic Year (208 work days including school year and summer) Effective Date of Employment: July 1, 2026 Hours: Monday - Friday (30 hours per week; 7 hours per day). This position requires early morning hours and mid-late afternoon hours. Salary: $30 - $32.96 per hour Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority: Reports to the Principal and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services and works under the direct supervision of DESE Licensed School Nurses supporting them in student/staff health matters in the Marlborough Public Schools. Job Summary: Provide primary and emergency health care to students and staff, and nursing services on transportation as needed. This includes direct and indirect nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, guidance, and collaborative planning as supervised by the School Nurse. Statement of Duties Primary duty is to provide nursing support on specialized transportation for medically complex students, supervising student(s) riding on school transportation to and from school. Participate in analyzing and interpreting student/staff health data and make informed judgments pursuant to Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing requirements. Assist students, parents, and staff with complex health care needs (e.g., diabetes, asthma, allergies) to deliver appropriate nursing care as prescribed by the medical provider and supervised by the School Nurse. Administer medication during the school day as prescribed by medical providers and per Massachusetts law 105 CMR 210 (1) under general supervision of the school nurse-RN with delegating authority. Implement nursing interventions per prescribed medical regimen and include appropriate health care components in the plan of nursing care for students/staff. Provide first aid and emergency care for injury or illness to the school population. Notify parents of illness and accidents that occur during school hours and complete accident forms. Maintain electronic records for each student/staff encounter. Assist school nurse in screenings as needed. Assist the School Nurse in prevention and control of communicable diseases including educating students, families, and staff on infection control measures, disease surveillance, electronic recording of immunizations and illnesses. Inform teachers and staff regarding medical issues of students in their care. Act as a health resource person, have knowledge of community resources, and appropriate referrals. Assist in maintaining equipment and supplies. Maintain confidentiality. Perform skilled nursing procedures in a safe, competent and effective manner. Perform treatments that may include G-tube feedings, feeding suctioning, positioning, toileting, range of motion exercises as collaborated with staff. Observe health regulations, policies and procedures of the school district, Department of Public Health, and Department of Education. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must possess a current, valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing. Pediatric and/or school nursing experience is a plus. Ability to work well with students, staff and members of the Marlborough community.
