Overview

Prevailance is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our Finance and Accounting team in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) , this position supports day-to-day accounting operations across general ledger accounting, payroll, accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial compliance.

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and is comfortable managing financial data and multiple recurring accounting cycles. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career accounting professional to gain broad corporate accounting experience within a government contracting environment.

Work Arrangement

Primarily On-Site with remote flexibility

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Support general ledger accounting and month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
• Perform bank and corporate credit card reconciliations, research discrepancies, and maintain accurate financial records
• Prepare bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll, including payroll adjustments, reconciliations, journal entries, and employee changes
• Process accounts payable, vendor invoices, and approved ACH and other electronic payments
• Maintain accurate accounting, payroll, and disbursement records in accordance with GAAP, company procedures, and internal controls
• Assist with federal, state, and local tax filings and payroll, benefits, retirement, workers' compensation, and other regulatory reporting
• Support DCAA, tax, and other financial audits by preparing reconciliations, schedules, transaction support, and requested documentation
• Research accounting discrepancies and collaborate with the CFO and other departments to resolve issues and support accurate financial reporting

Requirements

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of professional accounting experience; relevant internships or comparable practical accounting experience may be considered
• Working knowledge of GAAP
• Understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, accrual accounting, and account reconciliations
• Intermediate Microsoft Excel proficiency, including formulas, functions, lookups, reconciliations, and financial data
• Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple recurring deadlines and priorities
• Ability to handle confidential payroll, employee, banking, and financial information with discretion
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university

Desired

• Accounting experience within a U.S. Government contracting environment
• Familiarity with DCAA, FAR, and government contracting cost accounting principles
• Experience with Unanet ERP
• Experience with Paylocity or a comparable payroll/HRIS platform
• Previous experience supporting payroll, accounts payable, or month-end close
