Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas is among the largest and busiest in the nation, covering 43 counties, 44,000 square miles, and representing 8.3 million people from Houston to the Mexico border. Responsibilities Prosecute violations in organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drug and firearms offenses, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white‑collar crime. Represent the U.S. Attorney's Office in frequent courtroom appearances and complex civil matters. Develop and manage caseloads that increase in complexity as training and experience progress. Requirements U.S. citizen or national. J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction by entry‑on‑duty date. State a residence within the district or within 25 miles of the office. Pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax, and drug testing. Registration with the Selective Service System, if applicable. Preferred Qualifications Strong academic credentials with superior legal research, writing, and analytical skills. High‑volume courtroom experience, including first‑chair jury trials. Excellent organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal abilities. Commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. Computer proficiency and self‑sufficiency in legal research, writing, and correspondence. Salary & Benefits Salary range: $77,122.00 to $197,100.00 (inclusive of locality). Comprehensive benefits package: paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, life insurance, health benefits, and participation in the Federal Employees Retirement System. Travel: 1 to 5 nights per month on average. Relocation expenses will not be authorized.
