Echo Technician Non-Registered Job Summary and Qualifications The Echo/Cardiac Ultrasound Technologist works under the direction of the Non‑Invasive Cardiology Manager or designee and demonstrates knowledge of non‑invasive cardiac technology to perform physician‑ordered diagnostic cardiac exams, including echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEEs), carotid imaging, tilt‑table testing and other related examinations according to established hospital standards and practices. The technologist accurately documents studies and communicates relevant information with the patient care team. Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: Education and Experience: Candidates must be registry eligible for RDCS/RDMS‑FE from ARDMS or RCS from CCI. Effective 01/01/2013 new hires must meet ONE of the following registry eligible provisions: A. Completion of an associate’s degree in a diagnostic medical sonography or related allied health program and one (1) year full‑time clinical ultrasound/vascular ultrasound experience. B. Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited diagnostic medical sonography, diagnostic cardiac sonography or vascular technology program. C. Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) and six (6) months of full‑time clinical ultrasound/vascular experience. D. Bachelor’s degree in sonography or vascular technology (or foreign equivalent). E. Current Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS) or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International. F. High school graduate/G.E.D. and two (2) years full‑time on‑the‑job experience in cardiac or vascular ultrasound. G. Graduate of a non‑accredited program in Cardiac Medical Sonography that includes a minimum of one (1) year of specialty training (to include 800 clinical hours). Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by the service line, facility and department/unit. Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required: Non‑Registered - as above. Accredited Program requirements: obtain one of the required registries within 12 months from the date of hire. Non‑Accredited Program requirements: obtain one of the listed registries within 24 months from the date of hire. Essential Job Functions Acquire signed physician order and ensure patient consent; respond to STAT calls appropriately. Ensure proper equipment operation, demonstrating proficiency in basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance. Perform echocardiograms, including adult and pediatric studies with comprehensive views and measurements; conduct stress echo; perform TEEs and carotid imaging; assist with tilt‑table testing. Maintain patient reports in accordance with hospital policy and enter charges in Meditech. Perform high level disinfection using established policies and procedures. Additional Job Functions Take “Call” as scheduled. Assist the Cardiology PACS Administrator with disaster recovery and serve as a resource for the PACS system. Order department supplies and ensure adequate levels. Support mission and vision of the Methodist Healthcare System and comply with safety policies. Adhere to MHS Code of Conduct and report any violations. Complete other duties as assigned.
