Job Summary Jump start your nursing career at St. David’s Healthcare by joining our Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN). Cohort Start dates: January, February and March 2023 Oncology Services RN Residency Tracks include: Bone Marrow Transplant, Surgical Oncology, Transplant and Cellular Therapy. These RN Residency positions are available at the following hospitals: South Austin Medical Center St. David’s Medical Center, Downtown North Austin Medical Center Round Rock Medical Center The StaRN Program includes a combination of didactic training, simulation, and clinical preceptorship. As a new RN in our StaRN Program, you will receive the education and support necessary to move with confidence from the classroom to the bedside to become the highest caliber nurse. The year‑long StaRN program starts with a 10 to 22 week training agenda (depending on specialty). Didactic Training: First 5 to 9 weeks (depending on specialty). Instructor-led classroom training State-of-the-art simulation including comprehensive debriefs Certifications needed for each unit Training on charting systems The schedule is typically Monday-Friday, with 40-hour work weeks (8-hour days) Clinical Preceptorship: Next 7-14 weeks (depending on specialty). Conducted at the hospital You will be assigned a one-on-one preceptor to train you and acclimate you to your role Regular development meetings between the resident, their preceptor and their Director Customized Coaching/Onboarding report for clinical preceptorship The schedule is typically three 12 hour shifts at the hospital Residency Program – Remainder of your 1st year. Upon successful completion of the StaRN Program, residents will transition to their full-time roles at the hospital and continue professional development through routine interactions with a mentor. Responsibilities for Transplant and Cellular Therapy (TCT) Unit As a Registered Nurse (RN) on the TCT unit you will be responsible for the care of blood and marrow transplant patients, patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders, patients experiencing oncologic emergencies, and others meeting admission criteria. Common diagnoses seen include acute leukemia, non-hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma. You will be responsible for a maximum of 4 patients in this acute care setting. Qualifications Associate’s Degree in Nursing – required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree – preferred. Must have a current Texas RN License prior to your first day of employment OR have a current Graduate Nurse permit. If joining SDH on a Graduate Nurse Permit, you will be required to schedule and pass your NCLEX within your first 30 days of employment. Current Basic Life Support certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association – required.
