Operating under varying levels of supervision—ranging from entry-level workforce development roles to independent Lead Inspectors—this position ensures contractor compliance with project plans, specifications, and agency standards (such as VDOT) to deliver a safe, high-quality transportation system.Salary: $120,000–$180,000, commensurate with experience.Apply through this site or send resume to View email address on click.appcast.io as the owner's senior representative for assigned projects.Lead and guide Construction Managers, Inspectors, and other project staff in administering construction and maintenance contractsLeads and holds key project related meetingsInvolved in planning and executing project engineering decisions, including change orders or supplemental agreementsReviews financial processes, transactions, and documentationEnsure construction contract requirements are being met by contractor and consultantsOversees project budget and schedule, project management and documentation, all project submittals and all formal project correspondence, project quality, and communicationPerform additional duties as assigned to support successful project delivery.QualificationsRoadway, structure, traffic engineering, construction methods, procedures, practices, plans, specifications, and contractsVDOT Road and Bridge Specifications, Road and Bridge Standards, Construction Manual, and Manual for Uniform Traffic Control DevicesEngineering design for roadways, structures, and drainage as related to highway design and constructionContract development and project management processesSchedules, claims avoidance, claims mitigation, cost estimating and reportingMaterials used and performance, environmental, legal, and safety responsibilities related to construction of transportation facilitiesThe resident engineer is expected to be proficient with the following skills: Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with various senior stakeholders/constituentsEffective task and time managementFunctional computer usage including familiarity with Microsoft office suite software and all construction management software systems used by the DepartmentThe resident engineer is expected to have the ability to: Apply engineering planning and principles to a variety of projects and interpret roadway and bridge plans, specifications, and contractsConduct construction related submittal reviewsPrepare technical, financial, administrative, and explanatory correspondenceApply engineering planning and project scheduling principles to a variety of projectsConduct constructability and bid ability reviews, and cost and schedule analysisSupervise and manage employee work groupsMinimum requirementsHold and maintain a Virginia Professional Engineer (PE) License or ability to obtain it within 6 monthsBachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering or engineering related field from an ABET accredited university5+ years of experience, 10+ years of experience preferred.BenefitsM&J is a leader in providing quality engineering consulting services to a diverse and exciting client base.
