Intake Specialist - Equal Rights & Title IX

Job Overview Reporting to the Deputy TIX Coordinator for Intake and Support, the Intake Specialist supports the mission of the Office of Equal Rights and Title IX by conducting timely, thorough, and trauma‑informed intake meetings with complainants and respondents in response to reports alleging discrimination, sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, stalking, and more. The role provides support to Liberty University students, employees, and other participants in educational programs or activities by explaining complaint‑resolution processes, offering supportive measures, resources, and documentation. Essential Functions & Responsibilities Conduct trauma‑informed meetings (in‑person or virtual) with students, employees, and other parties reporting sexual misconduct. Provide information about rights under Title IX, VAWA, and Office of Equal Rights/Title IX policies, including reporting options, medical care, amnesty, prohibition against retaliation, advisors, civil protections, confidential resources, and complaint‑resolution processes. Offer details on supportive measures such as No‑Contact Directives, academic support, housing/work arrangement options, safety planning, and other resources. Assess campus safety concerns and refer them to the appropriate persons or offices, ensuring compliance with the Jeanne Clery Act, Title IX, and Liberty University policies related to Review Committee/Threat Assessment Team reviews, issuing timely warning notices, and emergency restrictions. Provide relevant university and local community resources, including counseling and health services, confidential advocacy, academic student advocacy, disability support, mentorship programs, spiritual development, and employment resources. Effectively communicate the mission of the Office of Equal Rights and Title IX and information regarding formal and informal resolution options. Maintain professionalism, thoughtfulness, and a trauma‑informed approach to each matter and person. Attend departmental and other official Liberty University meetings as required. Act as liaison to faculty, staff, and administration regarding concerns related to Office policies, procedures, and supportive measures. Maintain detailed, objective, and appropriate documentation of intake meetings and supportive measures using the case‑management software Maxient. Remain knowledgeable of Virginia and federal laws related to anti‑harassment and nondiscrimination for all protected classes and regulatory trends in higher education. Recommend updates, revisions, and changes to policies, procedures, internal office forms, office publications (manuals, website information, brochures, etc.), and related materials to direct supervisor. Provide reports, statistics, and trends on a requested basis to direct supervisor. Maintain qualifications through ongoing training and professional development. Work effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering the University’s mission. Supervisory Responsibilities None. Qualifications & Credentials In‑depth understanding of discrimination and Title IX process intake meetings and investigations. Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in criminal justice, psychology, human services, counseling, pastoral studies, human resources, biblical studies, or a related field. 1–2 years of relevant experience. Ability to articulate and defend the Christian educational mission and vision of Liberty University to a wide variety of individuals and groups. Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and a Responsible Employee for Title IX, requiring a minimum of annual training and successful completion of all required trainings. Thorough knowledge of Title IX, Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act, FERPA, Section 504, ADA, ADEA, Clery Act, VAWA, Virginia Code §§ 23.1‑805 and 900, and related laws. Validated driver certification: age≥21, valid driver’s license with ≥5 years of documented driving history, and a clean driving record. Preferred: Experience in higher education Title IX processes. Abilities and Competencies Communication and Comprehension – Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and related Office suite; discretion and confidentiality; public communication skills; self‑motivated with strong organizational skills. Problem Solving – Intuitively reason, analyze information and events, apply judgment to solve routine and complex problems; critical thinking and analytical skills. Physical and Sensory – Occasionally required to travel to local and campus locations; sit for extended periods; hear and speak effectively; occasionally stand, walk, and climb stairs; handle materials; lift ≤10lb.
