Assistant Controller

Overview A leading NYC based company is seeking a hands‑on Assistant Controller to oversee key operational accounting functions, focusing on accounts receivable, collections, and revenue recognition. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys owning processes that directly impact cash flow and financial accuracy. Responsibilities Accounts Receivable Manage aging reports, cash application, and collections processes Monitor outstanding balances and follow up with clients on past‑due accounts Handle escalations and coordinate resolution of billing issues Partner cross‑functionally to resolve discrepancies and contract‑related matters Prepare and issue invoices in accordance with contracts and billing schedules Month‑End Close and General Ledger Support and/or lead the month‑end close process Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts Prepare journal entries and ensure accurate financial reporting Investigate and resolve variances or discrepancies Revenue Recognition and Contract Review Review contracts to determine appropriate revenue recognition treatment Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards (U.S. GAAP / ASC 606) Maintain supporting documentation for revenue policies and schedules Assist with revenue close activities, including deferred and accrued revenue Support audit processes with required documentation and schedules Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required 5–7 years of relevant accounting experience Experience with accounts receivable, collections, and revenue recognition Familiarity with ERP systems (NetSuite required) Strong understanding of month‑end close and general ledger processes Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment Benefits Medical, dental, and vision benefits 401(k) retirement plan Discretionary bonuses may be available Pay Transparency Determining compensation for this role depends on a variety of factors including skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certification requirements, office location, and business needs.
