Patient Access Specialist

Job Posting Job Summary: To obtain all necessary information for admission including pre-registration, insurance verification/authorization, collection of deposits and amounts due prior to discharge. Performs all other duties as assigned. Job Responsibilities Register and review account for patients by utilizing hospital computer systems according to job guidance sheets. Assign insurance to patient's account according to the job guidance sheet. Ensure all information is obtained and entered accurately. Identification and verification of any components that may affect reimbursement. Follow up with appropriate staff to obtain authorization prior to scheduled procedures. Review account to determine patient financial responsibility prior to service. Collect deductible, co-pays, etc. according to hospital financial policy, as applicable. Completes assigned reports and/or queues within specified timeframes. Maintain hospital Master Patient Index (MPI). Search MPI at time of registration for existing medical record unit number. Use existing number to register patient. Avoid creating duplicate entries in the MPI. Achieve patient throughput standards while maintaining accuracy. Average patient wait times less than 5 minutes. Specifications Education Minimum Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required. Preferred/Desired: 2 years of college Preferred or Associate's Degree Preferred. Experience Description Minimum Required: 1 year General - Business Required. Preferred/Desired: 1 year Health/Medical - Business Preferred. Training Description Minimum Required: Special Skills Minimum Required: Skill in communicating clearly and effectively using standard English in written, oral and verbal format to achieve high productivity and efficiency. Skill to write legibly and record information accurately as necessary to perform job duties. Basic computer skills, ability to perform basic math computation. Type 35 words per minute. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to speak, articulate, and be understood clearly.
