Program and Role Summary:

The primary focus of the Clinical Therapist in the IOP/PHP is to provide direct clinical services to youth ages 12-17, including those dually diagnosed with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD) and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. This position delivers structured, evidence-based treatment within Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) levels of care, including individual, group, and family therapy and psychoeducational programming grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) frameworks. The Clinical Therapist II operates as a core member of the multidisciplinary treatment team under the supervision of the Clinical Director and in coordination with the Medical Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Ensures that all professional services are rendered to and on behalf of clients and families in a manner that promotes safety, recovery, health, and well-being, in accordance with Wayfinder's mission and vision and all applicable laws, rules, and regulations governing professional practice
• Provides services in a culturally competent, trauma-informed manner that reflects an understanding of the intersecting needs of youth with I/DD and behavioral health conditions.
• Conducts biopsychosocial assessments within 24 hours of admission, documenting clinical findings accurately and thoroughly and coordinating with the intake coordinator and medical/psychiatric staff to ensure timely completion of the full admission workup.
• Develops individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the youth, guardian(s), and multidisciplinary team, incorporating client and family strengths, presenting problems, functional goals, and level-of-care criteria consistent with IOP/PHP standards.
• Provides individual therapy utilizing evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care. In PHP, individual therapy is provided once per week; in IOP, individual therapy is provided as clinically indicated per the individual treatment plan. In both levels of care, interventions are adapted to meet the communication, cognitive, and developmental needs of youth with I/DD.
• Monitors and documents client progress toward individualized treatment plan goals and objectives on an ongoing basis, adjusting interventions in response to clinical changes.
• Collaborates with occupational therapists, case managers, mental health interns, and other program staff to deliver integrated, coordinated care.
• Coordinates psychiatric evaluations and, when clinically indicated, initiates 5150/5585 holds in consultation with the Clinical Director and Medical Director. Ensures appropriate follow-up care coordination following any psychiatric hospitalization.
• Adheres to all HIPAA requirements and Wayfinder policy regarding client confidentiality, records management, and release of information.
• Meets weekly for clinical supervision with the Clinical Director to review case conceptualization, intervention strategies, documentation, and professional development priorities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• A master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
• California licensure as an Associate Social Worker (ASW) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) in good standing and registration with the BBS is required.
• Bilingual: (English/Spanish) is preferred.
• Must meet eligibility requirements to bill for Medi-Cal services.
• A minimum of two years of experience working with high-risk children, adolescents, adults and/or families within the Mental Health, Educational, Child Welfare and/or Juvenile Probation systems preferred.
• A minimum one year of experience with public mental health departments' billing and documentation requirements is preferred
