What You’ll Do Partner with the Director of Nursing to oversee daily nursing operations and ensure exceptional resident outcomes. Supervise and develop nursing staff – fostering engagement, accountability, and professional growth. Serve as Infection Control Preventionist, leading compliance and safety initiatives. Participate in audits, quality improvement, and interdisciplinary care planning. Step in as Director of Nursing when needed to ensure continuity of leadership and care. Support staffing, onboarding, and training – helping maintain 24‑hour nursing coverage and high‑quality service. Responsibilities Assume duties of the Director of Nursing in his/her absence under the direction of the Administrator. Assist the resident and Social Services in planning the nursing services portion of the resident discharge plan. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc. Recruit, interview, select, hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate nursing personnel; delegate as necessary. Ensure adequate 24‑hour nursing coverage and that all nursing assistants are enrolled in or have graduated from an approved training program. Assist the DON in determining the staffing needs of the nursing service department. Help determine the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed. Resolve personnel problems and maintain employee motivation, keeping staff informed of changes that affect quality care. Develop work assignments and schedule duty hours; assist supervisory staff in completing or performing tasks. Delegate administrative authority to Charge Nurse(s) and Nurse Supervisor(s). Supervise admissions and readmissions for eligibility; coordinate Medicare skilled service eligibility and certification. Coordinate therapeutic services for residents with therapeutic needs. Monitor resident progress and eligibility for Medicare skilled services; notify providers within 24 hours. Make daily rounds of the nursing department to ensure compliance with nursing standards; report findings to the DON. Provide residents with a comfortable, clean, orderly, and safe environment. Assess residents’ condition and care needs through daily rounds. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure administration as ordered; report medication errors. Provide direct nursing care as necessary; check residents who cannot call for help frequently. Qualifications Must possess a degree in Nursing from an accredited school. Must hold a current, active license to practice in the state. Baccalaureate degree preferred. Working knowledge of geriatric complex care needs, principles of management, supervision, organizational behavior, and communication systems. Physical examination and/or physician certification of being free of communicable disease, available upon employment. Good physical and mental health. Ability to work independently or as part of a group. Effective communication skills. Valid driver’s license with good driving record if required to drive company vehicle; minimum age 21. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a hospital, long‑term care facility, or related health care setting. Previous long‑term care experience desirable. Computer knowledge preferred. Regular interaction with residents, coworkers, visitors, supervisors; must read, write, speak, and understand English at intermediate or advanced level.
