This position will use American Sign Language (ASL). This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for both Monthly & Substitute Opportunities. This list will be used for the current vacancy shown below as well as future vacancies.

BASIC FUNCTION

Paraeducator Independence Facilitator - Bilingual/Signing assists individuals or small groups of students to enhance learning including providing academic support, behavior intervention, and medical support to students in classroom settings. Assists teachers with instruction and classroom management that occurs in special education and general education classrooms, lunchrooms, and play environments, including distance learning and field trips.

CURRENT AND FUTURE VACANCY / POSITION SPECIFICS

Working Location: Current Vacancy – Lafayette Elementary School, 6125 Printwood Way, San Diego, CA 92117 (Area C). Future vacancies: refer to District Area Map and specify interested areas in application. Work Schedule: 10 months per year / 35 hours per week. Must be available in person Monday‑Friday within school bell schedule. Salary: Paid on Paraeducator Salary Schedule, Grade 032. Positions >20 hours qualify for district‑paid health and wellness benefits for employee and eligible dependents. Recruitment used to establish eligibility list for current and future hiring; successful candidates may be offered opportunity to substitute.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience High School diploma/GED and a passing score on the San Diego Unified School District Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (CAPE) or an Associate’s degree (or higher) or 48 or more eligible units of college coursework. Completion of post‑high school courses in Psychology, Early Childhood Development, Elementary Education, Special Education, or related field is desirable. Licenses and Other Requirements Maintain district certification in restraint reduction/avoidance. Maintain district Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation training.
