Position Summary

The Ones Teacher plays an important role in supporting the growth and development of one-year-old children by providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment. This position focuses on helping young children build early social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical skills through age-appropriate activities, routines, sensory exploration, and play-based learning.

The teacher is responsible for creating a warm and structured environment that encourages curiosity, independence, and positive interactions. Collaboration with families is essential to support each child’s developmental needs and ensure consistent care and communication.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement age-appropriate activities that support the developmental needs of one-year-old children.

• Maintain a safe, clean, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.

• Support children with daily routines, including meals, diapering/toileting, handwashing, rest time, and transitions.

• Observe and document children’s progress, milestones, and areas needing additional support.

• Communicate regularly with parents and caregivers regarding each child’s daily activities, progress, and needs.

• Encourage positive social interactions, early language development, sensory exploration, and independence.

• Provide attentive supervision at all times to ensure the safety and well-being of all children.

• Follow classroom schedules, center policies, licensing standards, and health and safety procedures.

• Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and leadership to support classroom operations.

• Participate in ongoing professional development and training related to early childhood education and childcare best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred.

• Previous experience working with young children in a childcare or early childhood education setting.

• Strong understanding of child development principles and age-appropriate early learning practices.

• Ability to maintain a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment.

• Clear background check and compliance with all applicable state and federal childcare regulations.

• First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain certification within the required timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or coursework in Early Childhood Education or a related field.

• Valid teaching certification or licensure, if required by the state of employment.

• Experience supporting children with diverse learning needs and developmental stages.

• Familiarity with play-based learning, sensory activities, and age-appropriate early childhood curriculum.

• Bilingual abilities or experience working with families from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The Ones Teacher utilizes strong communication skills daily to effectively engage with children, parents, and colleagues, ensuring a collaborative and supportive classroom environment. Organizational skills are essential for planning age-appropriate activities, managing daily routines, and maintaining accurate records of each child’s progress.

Creativity and adaptability allow the teacher to provide engaging, play-based learning experiences that support the developmental needs of one-year-old children. Observational skills are important for monitoring developmental milestones and identifying areas where additional support may be needed.

Additionally, patience, empathy, and a nurturing approach are vital in supporting each child’s emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development while fostering a positive and inclusive classroom culture.

Working Conditions Physical Demands

This position is physically demanding and may require lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor or child-sized furniture, and active movement throughout the day. The Ones Teacher may need to assist children with daily routines such as feeding, diapering/toileting, handwashing, rest time, and transitions. The teacher may also be exposed to common childhood illnesses and must follow all health, sanitation, and safety protocols.

Environmental Demands

The childcare environment may be busy and noisy, with multiple activities occurring at the same time. The Ones Teacher must maintain effective supervision, ensure a safe classroom environment, and respond promptly to the needs of young children throughout the day.

Mental Demands

Working with one-year-old children requires patience, emotional regulation, flexibility, and attentiveness. The Ones Teacher must be able to respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviors, changing classroom needs, stressful situations, or emergencies while maintaining a nurturing and supportive environment.
