Veterinary Extern - General Practice

AAHA-certified for over 40 years, we provide our patients excellent care with in-house laboratory, laser therapy, digital x-ray, oncology, dental prophylaxis, ultrasound and surgical services. Our hospital is located near ski areas, hiking trails and lakes, offering a great place to live and work. An externship at an NVA hospital gives students the opportunity to understand day-to-day operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each hospital is unique, common elements include an environment that is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and focused on exceptional service to animals and their people. Responsibilities and opportunities include working with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. Externs will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externships range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
