Job Description
This role supports low voltage projects across southern Wisconsin, focusing on the design, installation, and implementation of fire alarm, security, nurse call, access control, and audio-video systems. The Low Voltage Technician oversees field technicians, ensures high-quality installations, and serves as a key communication link between the project manager, field teams, and customers.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular site visits to evaluate the quality and accuracy of low voltage system installations on construction projects.
- Verify that all installations comply with company standards, manufacturer specifications, and applicable industry codes and regulations.
- Provide on-site coaching, mentoring, and guidance to technicians to improve workmanship, quality, and overall efficiency.
- Engage with customers during and after installation to assess satisfaction, address concerns, and ensure a positive service experience.
- Document site findings and generate clear reports on installation quality, technician performance, and customer feedback.
- Identify gaps in technician knowledge or skill sets and develop targeted training plans to address those needs.
- Collaborate closely with operations, service, and training teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives across projects.
- Stay up to date with industry standards, technologies, and best practices in low voltage systems, including fire alarm, nurse call, access control, and audio-visual solutions.
- Perform and oversee installation, troubleshooting, programming, and service of access control, fire alarm, nurse call, data cabling, and audio-visual systems.
- Pull wire and data cable according to project specifications and construction requirements.
- Work independently or in small groups to complete field tasks efficiently and safely while maintaining high quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with project managers, office personnel, technicians, and customers to ensure smooth project execution.
Essential Skills
- Minimum 2–5 years of technical field experience in the low voltage electrical industry.
- Hands-on experience with fire alarm, access control, video surveillance, nurse call, and/or audio-video systems.
- At least 2 years of experience in technician training or field supervision.
- Strong understanding of relevant industry codes, standards, and best practices for low voltage systems.
- Demonstrated ability to perform installation, troubleshooting, and programming of low voltage systems, including access control and fire alarm.
- Experience pulling wire and data cable in construction environments.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with technicians, project managers, office personnel, and customers.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple site visits, assessments, and field activities.
- Proficiency in using inspection and reporting tools such as tablets, mobile applications, and digital forms.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to job sites.
Work Environment
This position is 100% field-based on construction projects, working directly on low voltage installations and related systems. You will collaborate with a small, tight-knit team that currently includes 13 technicians and 6 inspectors, and you will often work in small groups or independently on site. The culture emphasizes a small family feel and close working relationships with project managers and office staff. The role follows a day shift schedule, typically 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an 8-hour shift Monday through Friday. Dress code aligns with standard construction and field work requirements, ensuring safety and practicality for job sites.
