Please focus on candidates with strong hands-on CockroachDB DBA/Database Engineering experience, specifically CockroachDB architecture/administration, distributed databases, Ansible Playbooks, and Bash/Korn Shell scripting . Candidates should also have experience with HA/multi-region deployments, performance tuning, monitoring, backup/restore, DR, IaC, and enterprise production environments . 8+ years of database engineering experience is required. Financial services/banking experience is highly preferred. Candidate must be able to work 3 days onsite in Plano, TX or Charlotte, NC .

Position Summary

The CockroachDB Database Engineer will be a hands-on Engineer responsible for designing, building, and operationalizing CockroachDB as an enterprise Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) on Linux platform.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and enforce engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices
• Build automation frameworks using Ansible, shell scripting, and infrastructure-as-code principles to enable scalable, repeatable deployments
• Design and implement self-service provisioning capabilities for application teams
• Ensure high availability, performance tuning, monitoring, failover, and disaster recovery capabilities
• Define and implement security, compliance, and governance controls aligned with enterprise policies
• Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and escalation point for CockroachDB-related issues
• Continuously improve platform reliability, efficiency, and developer experience Primary skills: CockroachDB DBA experiance, Anisble Playbook, Shell script, Distributed DB knowledge
• Strong hands-on experience with CockroachDB architecture and administration
• Deep understanding of distributed database systems (replication, consistency, consensus models)
• Expertise in automation using Ansible playbooks
• Strong shell scripting (Bash/Korn Shell) for automation and operational tooling
• Expertise in using AI Tools like Github Copilot or any other AI tools to write the code
• Experience with multi-region deployment architectures and high availability design
• Database performance tuning, query optimization, and capacity planning
• 8+ years of database engineering experience in enterprise environments
• Strong experience in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
• Experience in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
• Solid understanding of backup, restore, failover, and disaster recovery strategies
• Experience implementing security controls, encryption, RBAC, and compliance standards
• Excellent collaboration and stakeholder communication skills

Desired Qualifications

• Familiarity with Terraform or similar IaC tools
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipeline integration for database provisioning
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments
