Licensed Practical NurseThe Licensed Practical Nurse, in collaboration with an RN, performs the functions of a Licensed Practical Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating assigned patient care. This position performs independently advanced skills within area guidelines and after education and demonstration of clinical competency.Proactively contributes to Eskenazi's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi valuesIn collaboration with an RN, performs the functions of a Licensed Practical Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating assigned patient careResponsible for all patient care assigned, and standards of practice with the support of the RNParticipated with assistance in health care team approach for clients; assists in performing client examinations, treatments and specialized procedures as defined by area specific guidelinesAdministers prescribed treatments and/or medications after demonstration of clinical competency and in accordance hospital/center/nursing policy and procedurePerforms independently advanced skills within area guidelines and after education and demonstration of clinical competencyMaintains medication accountability records, stock records and client-physician schedulePerforms intake process of medical history gathering, lab work scheduling, withdrawal symptoms documentation and client orientation to clinical proceduresParticipates in team meetings including input of information that can be helpful to the counselors in client-care and clinical managementEffective communication skills required; considerable standing/walking/lifting/stooping may be requiredAlters activities/behaviors to reflect/ensure adequate care appropriate to age of patient served as identified in area-specific procedures or job specific competenciesEvaluates clients to determine whether a different level of medical care is neededGraduation from an accredited training program for Licensed Practical Nurses, or the equivalent, incorporating pharmacology of proof of completion of pharmacology courseA minimum of six months of clinical nursing with patients of all age groups to successfully meet the criteria for advancement to LPN IILicenses/Certification required: Current Indiana License as Licensed Practical Nurse or eligibility for license; current CPR certificationSkills in delivery of patient care, use of equipment and instruments appropriate to assigned unitGood interpersonal communication skills with an accurate reading/recording of informationKnowledge acquired in an accredited LPN training programAbility to follow oral/written instructions and communicate/work effectively with a wide variety of people/patientsFunction in stressful or crisis situationsAccurately reads/records dataFlexibility to changing work priorities; assists, assesses and responds to patient needsKnowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients servedMust demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess date/interpret appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needsAbility to use age appropriate communications skillsAll individuals working for the Opioid Treatment Program must have experience and training to safely manage therapeutic services to patients and to provide therapeutic services to patients receiving Opioid treatment medicationMUST MEET THE FOLLOWING BASIC COMPETENCIES IF APPLICABLE:CPICPRAnnual EducationAge RelatedMental Status ExamMedicationsDSM IVAddictionsLegalSandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center's primary mission is to serve individuals with serious mental illness and chronic addiction as well as seriously emotionally disturbed children and their families.
