Endoscopy Technician East Providence

SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Staff Nurse, the Paramedic provides direct patient care to endoscopy patients. Assists the endoscopy team with positioning patients, assisting with procedures, preparing and cleaning instruments, and restocking room and cart supplies. RESPONSIBILITIES Apply Brown University Health’s corporate values of respect, honesty, and fairness. Assist the Staff Nurse with all aspects of the nursing process, including collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data, following the nursing management plan, and monitoring patient response to interventions. Prepare the endoscopy room in a timely manner with all anticipated supplies, instruments, and equipment. Assist with endoscopy procedures; anticipate physician needs, pass instruments, remove polyps, obtain specimens and all endoscopic biopsies, operate cautery and other equipment, assist with dilating procedures, and operate advanced endoscopic tools. Maintain strict aseptic technique and a safe environment for patients and staff. Check all equipment and instruments for proper functioning prior to each procedure. Demonstrate competence in specimen care and handling according to established procedure. Set up and perform high‑level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories; test disinfecting solutions daily. Perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshoot minor problems; refer more complex repairs to appropriate sources. Assist with obtaining vital signs, point‑of‑care testing, ambulation, positioning, and pre/post procedure care. Clean and prepare the room and instruments between cases; restock supplies as needed. Maintain cleanliness of the work area, including the refrigerator. Assist in the transport of patients to and from endoscopy. Perform designated treatments under supervision according to Nursing Department policy. Assist in the overall function of the endoscopy unit under direction of the Staff Nurse. Perform emergency/code actions, including CPR. Prepare and maintain records and reports related to activities, equipment use, and quality improvement activities. Maintain patient confidentiality. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Current certification in Basic Life Support. Current RI registration as a Certified Nursing Assistant or experience in an endoscopy, surgical, or other relevant technical role. Completion of the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates, Inc. (SGNA) Program preferred. GI Technical Specialist certification expected to be completed within one year of hire. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the lifespan with sensitivity to cultural diversity. EXPERIENCE Six months related experience in an outpatient procedural setting preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physician offices, and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions. INDEPENDENT ACTION Works under the supervision of the staff nurse within the scope of Hospital and Endoscopy policies and procedures. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies may be required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY None.

PAY RANGE $20.96–$34.61
