Salary range: $65,000 - $70,000 Internal candidates only Governance Specialist Reports To: Associate Director, Governance In-Office Requirements: Hybrid, anticipate 1 day per week on average Salary Band: Coordinator/Specialist Position Summary The Governance Specialist supports SCCM’s governance activities and volunteer management functions. This position supports governance operations for the Board of Directors/Council, Board of Regents, sections, committees, chapters, Knowledge Education Groups, and other volunteer bodies. The role helps coordinate governance administration, volunteer appointments, elections and nominations, records management, communications, and administrative processes that support effective governance and volunteer engagement. Key Responsibilities I. Governance Administration Support and coordinate the administration of the Council, including scheduling, logistics, and meeting documentation. Prepare, compile, and distribute meeting materials, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness. Maintain proper recording, retention, and archiving of official governance documents, attendance trackers, and related records. Track and process member travel reimbursements. Support orientation and onboarding of new Council members, developing materials and training as needed. Maintain and update committee charges and governance matrices. Support elections, nominations, and governance voting. Manage assigned governance activities for the annual Critical Care Congress. II. Volunteer Management Support the administration of the committee appointment process, including application submissions, database maintenance, acceptance and denial letters, and vice-chair appointments. Support the administration of awards programs and presidential citations. Assist in the administration of the Board of Regents. Communicate with volunteers regarding applications, appointments, and disclosures. Track committee terms, appointments, and rotations; coordinate volunteer selection and nomination processes. Support staff partners in understanding and executing responsibilities related to volunteer management. Administer and maintain records of delegates and liaisons to third-party organizations, maintain communications, and gather reports for Council review. III. Elections and Nominations Support the annual Council nomination and election processes. Prepare election and nomination materials, assist with candidate vetting steps, and support related communications. Qualifications and Experience High-school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in public administration, nonprofit management, business, or related field preferred. Minimum of five years of relevant experience in nonprofit governance, board administration, association management, or high-level administration. Experience working with volunteer leadership in a professional association or medical society strongly preferred. Experience supporting senior executives and/or volunteer leaders. Strong background in Microsoft Office suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint. Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including professional correspondence and meeting minute preparation. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
