Polysomnographic Technician

Location: Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre (GSWB) – Nights (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36 | Worker Type: Regular | Exemption Status: No Job Summary A Certified Polysomnographic Technician develops competency in and performs the basics of polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. Key Responsibilities Gather and analyze patient information; verify medical orders and protocols. Register patients and verify insurance, demographic, and outpatient data while explaining pre‑testing, testing, and post‑testing procedures. Prepare and calibrate equipment, apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards, perform physiologic calibrations, and fit positive airway pressure masks. Follow procedural protocols to ensure accurate data collection and monitor study‑tracing quality for artifact‑free signals. Document routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, procedural changes, and significant findings to facilitate scoring and interpretation. Complete data acquisition, follow lights‑on procedures to verify data integrity, and finalize data collection. Assist with clerical duties such as scheduling, maintaining data records, ordering supplies and linen, managing patient files, and report distribution. Support performance improvement programs by compiling relevant information. Score sleep and wake stages, clinical events, and complete accurate reports under supervision of a LevelII or III Polysomnographic Technician. Comply with applicable laws, regulations, and safety guidelines; participate in equipment care, maintenance, and Joint Commission‑mandated educational programs. Maintain confidentiality of patient and program information. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required. Associate’s Degree – Preferred. Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience – Required. Certification and license: Must hold certification as a Polysomnographic Technician with LevelI, II, or III qualifications per institutional requirements.
