Description

The Parks Business and Volunteer Specialist provides leadership and administrative oversight for department-wide volunteer services and assigned operational programs. This role is responsible for driving volunteer engagement, improving program operations, managing key financial and board administrative tasks, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Program Leadership

• Program Management: Design, evaluate, and continuously improve a comprehensive volunteer program, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, recognition, and retention strategies.

• Placement & Operations: Align volunteer assignments with departmental priorities, operational needs, risk considerations, and volunteer qualifications.

• Analytics: Track and analyze volunteer participation, retention, and outcomes to guide future program decisions.

Administrative & Board Support

• Board Operations: Serve as staff support for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and assigned committees by preparing agendas, recording minutes, and maintaining records.

• Records & Data Management: Handle records retention, filing, indexing, scanning, data entry, database creation, and report generation.

• Safety Training Coordination: Facilitate department safety training by managing scheduling, maintaining compliance records, and enforcing safety procedures.

Financial Operations

• Financial Controls: Process purchases, review receipts, manage invoices, and ensure accurate software entry.

• Cash Management: Balance daily cash drawers, prepare deposits, issue refunds, and generate daily closing financial reports.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

• A Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Business Management, or a closely related field is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of related experience is required.
  • Additional job-related experience, education or relevant certifications may be considered as a substitute for the degree and/or experience requirements.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a First-Aid/CPR certification within 6 months of hire date.
• Valid drivers license required.

• Ability to interpret policies, establish procedures within assigned areas, independently resolve non-routine issues, and recommend changes to departmental practices.

• Ability to coordinate multiple routine and more robust tasks assigned in a timely manner.
• Proficiency with standard office and computer equipment, word-processing and spreadsheet programs and the ability to learn specialized recreation computer programs.
• Ability to work irregular hours and assume added responsibility as needed.
• Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing and in person.
• Ability to use good judgment, make responsible decisions, and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
• Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Salary/Compensation: $58,238 - $61,566 per year
