Unit Secretary
The Unit Secretary provides clerical services under the direction and supervision of the charge nurse. Acts as a unit receptionist, responsible for clerical and secretarial functions, and transcribing orders. Works as an interdepartmental liaison and serves as a public relations representative. Performs other duties as directed.
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
One year of related experience. Requires a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.

*Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and make appropriate decisions following organizational and departmental policies and procedures with minimal supervision
*Proficient in written and verbal communication skills for documentation and patient, family, and staff interactions to convey clear concise instructions and to accept information to understand and make decisions.
Area of Responsibilities:
*COMMUNICATION / TEAM WORK / CONDUCT: position requires frequent contact with others both within and external to the facility. The employee must: Demonstrate the ability to communicate and work effectively with others to promote safe, efficient care, accurately receives and transcribes verbal orders related to diet / labs/ diagnostics. Exhibits the Tanner Standards of Behavior, Maintains confidentiality in compliance with the standards and policy for HIPPA, Communicates with patients, visitors and families in a manner which promotes patient satisfaction.
*COORDINATION OF DEPARTMENTAL WORK FLOW: is responsible for coordination of basic departmental work flow: as the focal point for coordination of communication, management of the record both electronic and paper, as a resource for interdepartmental services and communication and the management of basic departmental data (transport logs, client account tracking, maintains accurate census, patient satisfaction initiatives), knowledgeable as it relates to down time processes, management of stock and clerical supplies. Effectively understands and operates equipment appropriate to the departments clerical needs.
*DOCUMENTATION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE MEDICAL RECORD Responsible for documentation of vital signs and weight as requested in compliance with policy and standards. Knowledgeable in the review of data within the electronic record Knowledgeable in the entry and review of orders utilizing the Provider Order Management system. Assist in testing of Meditech upgrades and facilitation of roll out.
*PARTICIPATION IN THE GENERAL UNIT OPERATION: Responsibly manages resources in a conscientious manner. Participates in the cleaning and storage of equipment in compliance with Infection Prevention standards. Assists in the identification of opportunities for improvement of departmental flow and communication and participates in process improvement initiatives for the department and facility as directed.
*STANDARDS / POLICY & PROCEDURE: Responsible for knowledge of policies & procedures and Standards related to HIPPA, Code of Ethics, Use of POM, Meditech usage, departmental standards and performance initiatives etc.
Compliance Statement:
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
