JOB DESCRIPTION

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

The Marketing and Communications Director leads strategic marketing, branding, and communication initiatives to enhance International Dark Sky Discovery Center visibility and engagement. This role involves content creation, social media management, media relations, event promotion and planning, and internal/external communications. The Director collaborates to align marketing strategies with the Center’s mission, values, and institutional goals.

Responsibilities:

• Strategic Marketing & Branding: Develop and implement strategic marketing plans and oversee brand consistency.
• Optimize digital presence: Enhance the Center’s visibility on a global scale to support recognition of the Center’s value as a worldwide exploration and education center.
• Content Creation & Management: Create and edit materials for the Center’s website, social media, press releases, newsletters, and digital advertising.
• Social Media & Digital Engagement: Manage official social media accounts, monitor online reputation, and analyze engagement metrics.
• Media & Public Relations: Serve as the primary media contact, draft press releases, align messaging and outreach strategies, and coordinate interviews and coverage independently and in collaboration with leadership.
• Project & Event Marketing: Oversee marketing for new initiatives, and special events and work collaboratively with the internal/external stakeholders to ensure our branding and presence is well positioned for growth opportunities.
• Physical presence: Support the continued enhancement of the Center’s physical space to ensure consistent branding resulting in a positive visitor experience.
• Fundraising: Support philanthropic activities to ensure charitable giving along with appropriate recognition for these activities.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or closely affiliated field with 3-5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong Project Management skills with proficiency in graphic design, and applicable software. 
• Solid and robust speaking skills with a proven record of creative thinking and experience in marketing and social media.
• Passion for STEM education and efforts to foster growth.
• Dynamic and entrepreneurial professional with a passion for the science mission, audience engagement, and strategic marketing.

• Interpersonal: Relationship building and an appreciation of diverse cultures with the ability to positively represent an organization, and effective engagement with the media and public.
• Collaboration & Communication: Working collaboratively, listening to others and understanding the unique complexities of an ever-changing social and print media need.
