About the Opportunity Kids in the Game is a Certified B Corporation that provides day camp experiences for children across New York City, Westchester, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Jersey City. We are seeking experienced Behavioral Intervention Specialists to support the behavioral, social‑emotional, and mental health needs of campers and staff across multiple camp locations during the summer of 2026. The Kids in the Game Summer Camp Experience Our camps combine sports, creativity, and community to help kids build confidence, compassion, and connection. Activities include sports and games, arts and crafts, STEM enrichment, field trips, swim activities, theme weeks, and special events. Campers explore new sports, develop friendships, learn social‑emotional skills, and experience a summer environment that fosters growth and empowerment. Behavioral Intervention Specialist – Role & Key Tasks The Specialist reports to the Camps Supervisor and partners with Camp Directors, Assistant Directors, Division Leaders, and camp staff to create safe, structured, and inclusive camp environments across 13 sites. Provide on‑site and on‑call behavioral support across camp locations. Conduct camper observations, identify behavioral trends, and proactively support challenges. Design and implement behavior support strategies aligned with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Work individually with campers to reinforce positive decision‑making and social‑emotional growth. Develop individualized behavior support plans when necessary. Provide direct support during behavioral incidents and conflict resolution situations. Collaborate with camp leadership teams to plan for camper success. Serve as a key partner in addressing complex camper situations and behavioral concerns. Support implementation of camp programming by helping staff engage and manage campers. Participate in camp‑wide events, transitions, special activities, field trips, and high‑impact moments where behavioral support may be needed. Staff Support, Coaching & Leadership Collaboration Act as a trusted coach and resource for camp staff. Provide real‑time guidance on behavior management and camper support strategies. Support Camp Directors and Assistant Directors in responding to behavioral concerns and incidents. Lead scenario‑based trainings focused on behavior management, mental health awareness, conflict resolution, and stress management. Collaborate with leadership teams to ensure consistent implementation of behavior expectations. Support training and onboarding efforts for new and replacement staff. Model best practices in youth development, conflict resolution, and behavioral support for all staff. Partner with leadership teams to strengthen staff confidence and effectiveness. Family Communication & Camper Advocacy Assist Camp Directors with family communications related to behavioral and social‑emotional concerns. Participate in family meetings when appropriate. Advocate for camper needs while maintaining a collaborative, solutions‑oriented approach. Ensure support plans are clearly communicated across staff and leadership teams. Build trusting relationships with families through professional and empathetic communication. Documentation, Reporting & Organization Maintain accurate incident reports, behavior plans, and behavioral support documentation. Complete weekly reports and behavioral tracking requirements. Ensure all records remain organized and compliant with camp and Department of Health requirements. Communicate behavioral trends and camper support needs to leadership teams. Maintain confidential and professional documentation systems. Engagement & Relationship Building Build meaningful relationships with campers, staff, and families. Foster a welcoming environment where campers feel safe, supported, and encouraged. Serve as a positive role model reinforcing empathy, respect, and community values. Use strength‑based language and positive reinforcement to support camper growth and confidence. Maintain a visible and approachable presence across all camp communities. Safety & Risk Management Help ensure a safe, structured, and supportive camp environment. Respond appropriately to behavioral incidents, conflicts, and safety concerns. Support camp leadership in implementing emergency procedures when needed. Monitor behavioral trends that may impact camper or staff safety. Communicate all behavioral and safety concerns to camp leadership. Support both physical and emotional safety throughout camp operations. Team Collaboration & Communication Work closely with Camp Directors, Assistant Directors, Division Leaders, counselors, and specialists. Communicate clearly and consistently regarding camper needs, behavioral trends, and support plans. Attend required trainings, leadership meetings, and check‑ins. Contribute to a team culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Support camp‑wide initiatives, events, and leadership priorities throughout the season. Seasonal Work Expectations & Summer Schedule Approximately 8‑15 hours per week during May and June for pre‑summer training and planning. Full‑time in‑person work Monday‑Friday, roughly 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM during Late June through August 2026. Weekly hours: 40‑45 hours per week. 3‑4 days each week conducting site visits and on‑site support; 1 day dedicated to documentation, planning, and reporting. On‑call support during camp operating hours. Camp size varies from ~30‑150+ campers and 10‑40+ staff per location. Seasonal Compensation Structure Pre‑Summer Compensation Pre‑Summer Training Bonus: $575 total ($200 stipend for June + $375 for training). $300 for virtual and in‑person trainings plus $75 for Camp Field Day participation. Summer Compensation Biweekly salary payments from July through August 2026. Weekly salary range: $900 to $1,000 per week. Total summer compensation range: $7,000 to $9,000 (based on 8‑9 weeks of operation). Adjusted proportionally for fewer weeks. Payroll processed biweekly throughout the summer. Qualifications Passionate about youth development and social‑emotional learning. Experience supporting children in educational, recreational, counseling, therapeutic, or behavioral settings. Strong conflict resolution and relationship‑building skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience with PBIS or similar approaches. Currently pursuing or completed a Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, School Psychology, or a related field (preferred). 2+ years of experience providing behavioral or mental health support to youth (preferred). Ready to pass required background checks and provide medical clearance. CPR, First Aid, and AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain). Physical Requirements & Active Camp Expectations Stand and walk for extended periods throughout camp locations. Travel between sites using public transportation or personal transportation. Walk between activity areas, parks, playgrounds, and field trip locations while supervising campers. Bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to engage with campers. Climb stairs in school buildings and community facilities. Lend up to 25 pounds of supplies and equipment. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Maintain visual and auditory awareness while supervising campers and staff. Benefits Attendance Bonus Eligible for a $100 bonus paid in the final summer paycheck if missing no more than one scheduled camp day.
