RBTs are trained to implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy. RBTs work 1:1 with their patients. They are responsible for supervision and safety of patients, as well as implementing individualized programming.
Full-time employees must make themselves available to work up to a 40-hour/week schedule, as needed; 32 hours will be guaranteed hours for FT RBT employees. Full-time employees are eligible for the full benefits package, subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations of each benefit program. Part-time employees are any employee who is not in temporary status and is regularly scheduled to work a set schedule less than the full-time schedule of 40 hours per week. Employees are paid when in billing status and there is no guarantee of hours.
Condition of Employment
- Must successfully pass the initial and updated criminal history, background, and record checks, including driving history checks.
- Must obtain Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification during the training program within the first 60 days or will be released from employment.
- Must provide transportation to patients using your personal vehicle, travel to different locations within the surrounding area to provide therapy and must have valid driver’s license.
- Must provide proof of automobile insurance with a minimum of $100,000 combined in property and medical liability prior to and during employment.
- Must be available for regular, in-person attendance, as required training must be completed in the first week or employment may be suspended to a later training class.
- Per the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), the RBT credential requires that the employee does not have a physical or mental condition or addiction to any substance that could impair competent and objective professional performance of behavior analysis services and/or jeopardize public health and safety.
- Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), as provided by LittleStar, as required, for both illness (i.e. masks, etc.) and patient behaviors (i.e. protective jackets, sleeves, hats/helmets, etc.).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Executes ABA therapy programs, acquisition and mastered, as prescribed by the patient’s treatment plan
- Implements appropriate teaching strategies (i.e., discrete trial, errorless and error correction procedures, NET, IT, etc.) as prescribed by the patient’s treatment plan
- Implements appropriate behavior management techniques as prescribed by behavior plan, including physical management procedures in response to aggressive or unsafe behavior, consistent with Crisis De-escalation and Intervention (CDI) training
- Follows reinforcement schedule and uses reinforcement appropriately
- Keeps patient safe and treats patient with dignity and respect
- Provides and maintains an environment free of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Reports any incidents or suspicions to a director immediately
- Provides one-on-one supervision; ensures patients remain safe and supervised at all times, without assistance
- Assists patient with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Adheres to patient’s diet, supplementation, and medication protocols, per parent instructions
- Refrains from any unauthorized use of cell phones, Internet and email that is not related to LittleStar duties
- Maintains client, family and employee confidentiality per LS policy and HIPAA Privacy Rule Regulations.
- Promotes a positive company culture with open communication, respect, and teamwork
- Refers parent to appropriate staff member with regards to non-therapy related questions
- Completes data collection as directed
- Completes and submits client billing as directed
- Completes and submits additional paperwork in a timely manner (time clock exception forms, incident reports, mileage reimbursement forms, temperature tracking forms, etc.)
- Communicates with scheduler and/or clinical team about open time and utilizes this time for appropriate tasks, which may include training with new patients, completing trainings, making materials, and/or providing break and behavior support.
- Refrains from excessive absenteeism
- Reports to work on time, and calls appropriate person when going to be late
- Requests time off well in advance, calls-out sick to the appropriate person by the designated deadline (at least one hour prior to scheduled shift)
- Communicates with Clinical BCBA and Clinical Apprentice regarding all developments, problems, or concerns as needed and requests feedback
- Responds appropriately and professionally to feedback
- Is flexible with schedule changes
- Assures notes/records are updated daily with appropriate information
- Demonstrates adequate knowledge of basic ABA principles
- Attends and participates in team meetings, assessments, therapist meetings, monthly clinical staff meetings, trainings and other meetings as requested by Program Clinical BCBA, Training Manager, Clinical Director, Vice President of Clinical Operations, Chief Clinical Officer, or Chief Operating Officer
- Works collaboratively with other members of patient’s treatment team and family
- Maintains environment by cleaning up after patient and self
- Completes Weekly Task Assignments daily in order to maintain a clean and hospitable work and therapy environment for all
- Ensures that patient’s environment is neat and orderly. Materials that are not being used are sent home with parents or put back into general use for the Center
- Respects the property of LittleStar
- Acts as a positive role model for all staff, families, and patients working with LS
- Maintains professional relationship with parents and other family members
- Adheres to all LS policies and procedures
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Apprentice, BCBA, Training Director, Clinical Director, Vice President of Clinical Operations, Chief Operations Officer, or Chief Executive Officer
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or GED required, bachelor’s degree in ABA or related field is preferred
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and a safe and reliable vehicle
- Experience working with individuals with autism is preferred, but not required
- A positive team player and energetic professional
- Strong organizational and time management skills along with the ability to manage multiple tasks
- Good judgment and creative thinking skills
- Ability to communicate appropriately given the circumstances of the situation and individuals involved
- Discretion in matters that need to remain private, as well as HIPAA and PHI
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Data Management environment
Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
Position operates in a clinical environment. This role routinely uses standard office and audiovisual equipment. The environment is open with bright lights and active patients that result in a loud environment. Position may also operate at offsite locations including a patient’s home, school, or place of employment. This role will be expected to work at multiple sites with different patient profiles, including a range of ability level(s) presenting challenging behaviors.
This position is not eligible for telecommuting. The employee will receive one 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Physical & Psychological Demands
The physical & psychological demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is required to work with special needs/disabled patients, who can be aggressive based upon their diagnosis. It is a physically active position, working with patients of varied activity levels and movement. Patients will move throughout the building to various locations during therapy.
RBTs will be required to implement appropriate behavior management techniques as prescribed by patient’s behavior plan. This will include physical management procedures in response to aggressive or unsafe behaviors. RBTs must successfully demonstrate techniques learned during Crisis De-escalation and Intervention (CDI) training within the first few weeks of employment and annually thereafter.
RBTs must be flexible and adaptive to working with multiple patients with different patient profiles, including a range of ability level(s) presenting challenging behaviors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to meet the following demands.
Physical requirements :
- Speaking – must speak and understand the English language
- Hearing – requires hearing ability sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively
- Reaching with hands and arms; be dexterous while using hands to finger, handle or feel
- Exhibiting physical agility such as walk/run/climb stairs; sit/stand for long periods time; dodge/lunge/pivot/shuffle ; have quick reaction time / move quickly; bend at waist, in all directions; be able to sit on floor with legs extended, then lean back supporting weight on elbow; be able to lay flat on floor, facing down; be able to get up from floor to stand quickly, without assistance of wall, chair or pushing themselves up with their hands
- Lifting/pushing/pulling at least 50 lbs.
- Enduring high levels of constant physical activity
Psychological requirements :
- Patient behaviors may precipitate and/or impact an employee’s personal mental health. The RBT role may not be suitable for people with certain behavioral health conditions (e.g., PTSD, Anxiety, Bipolar, etc.).
- Must remain calm and focused under pressure
Other requirements :
- Supervise employee’s patient consistently and independently
- Be able to work with patients who may be larger in height and/or weight than employee
Travel
Some occasional travel is required for this position.
